Fitbit Flex bands allow you to track your workouts and physical activities, giving you easy access to a record of your workout routine. The Flex bracelet does not have a display or interface, so you need to configure it using software on a computer or an app on your phone. Before you can use your Fitbit device, you will need to create a free account during the setup process.
Part 1 of 4: Charge the Fitbit device
Step 1. Gather all the equipment you need
To set up the Fitbit Flex, you need the following accessories:
- a Fitbit Flex tracker also called a Flex tracker (it can already be inserted into the bracelet),
- a USB charger,
- a USB Bluetooth dongle,
- two bracelets.
Step 2. Charge your Fitbit
Before setting up your new Fitbit device, make sure it's charged:
- remove the Flex tracker from the wristband if necessary,
- insert the Flex electronic coach into the USB port,
- push it until you hear a click,
- plug the power cable into the USB port or a wall outlet,
- charge your device until you see at least three indicator lights. This indicates that the charge is at 60%.
Part 2 of 4: Set up the Fitbit device on a computer
Step 1. Download the Fitbit Connect app
This program is available for Mac or Windows on this page. With this tool, you can track the information of your Fitbit device.
Step 2. Download the installer
Download the installer that matches your computer's operating system. Scroll down the page a bit and you'll find an icon to download it. The site will try again to identify the operating system you are using and provide you with the appropriate link. If the displayed operating system is incorrect, select the correct one under the download icon.
- Note: If your computer is running Windows 10, the Download icon will redirect you to the Windows Store. Windows 10 uses the same app as Windows Phone. So, once the installation of the app is complete, just follow the steps below. If you want to use the conventional program in Windows, click on Pc as the operating system.
Step 3. Run the installer
Run the installer you downloaded to install Fitbit Connect. After the download is complete, launch the installer and follow all of the mentioned instructions to install Fitbit.
Step 4. Open Fitbit Connect and click New Fitbit User
This action will allow you to create an account and configure your device.
- Note: In case you already have a Fitbit account, click Existing user, to access your account and configure your new bracelet.
Step 5. Create a Fitbit account
Enter an email address and create a password or sign up using your Google or Facebook account.
Step 6. Enter your personal information
This information will be used to allow you to track your physical activities. Enter your name, height, gender, date of birth, and select your time zone.
Step 7. Select Flex from the list showing available devices
So you can start to configure it.
Step 8. Insert the Flex tracker into the wristband
Insert it so that the arrow points outward towards the black stripe.
Step 9. Put on the bracelet
Adjust the bracelet to your wrist using the clasp. It should be tight, but not too tight.
Step 10. Insert the dongle into a USB port on the PC
You will not be able to continue the setup process until you have done so.
This step is not necessary if your computer already has a Bluetooth connection
Step 11. Wait for the synchronization to complete
Wait for the Flex tracker to sync with the computer. This may take a few minutes.
Step 12. Double-press the flat part of the Flex
Once the tracker is connected, you will be able to see two indicator lights on the black stripe. Double tap the bracelet and you will feel it vibrate.
Step 13. Use your Flex
Your device is now configured and the goal of 10,000 steps per day must be reached. You have the option to check your progress by double tapping the Flex. Each indicator light indicates that 20% of your goal is achieved.
Step 14. Check the dashboard
Once the device is synced, you can view your data on the Fitbit dashboard, use it to record your activities, your diet, and track your progress. You can access it at any time from this page.
Part 3 of 4: Set up Fitbit on a mobile device
Step 1. Download the Fitbit app on your phone
It is free and available on iOS, Windows Phone and Android. You can download it from your phone's app store.
Step 2. Insert the Flex tracker into the cuff and wear it
Insert it so that the arrow faces outward and points to the black band on the bracelet.
Step 3. Open the app and tap on the Start option. This action starts the process of creating the account and configuring your device.
Sign in with your Fitbit account, in case you already created it during setup on your computer
Step 4. Wait until the app detects your phone
This may take a few minutes.
Step 5. Tap Fitbit Flex from the list of available devices
This will start the installation process.
Step 6. Tap Start
The account creation process will start.
Step 7. Create an account
Enter a password and email address, or sign in using your Google or Facebook profile.
Step 8. Enter your personal information
You will be prompted to enter your name, date of birth, weight, gender and height. This information is used to calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate).
Step 9. Sync your device
Follow the instructions to sync your Fitbit with your phone.
- Note: If you are using Windows 10 operating system on a computer that does not have Bluetooth, you will need to insert the Bluetooth dongle into a USB port.
- If your phone is already synced with another device, such as a headset or computer, you may not be able to sync it with Fitbit.
Step 10. Wait until your Flex setup is complete
This operation may take a few minutes. Make sure you don't close the app until this process is complete.
Step 11. Check the dashboard
When the installation is complete, the Fitbit dashboard will open. This allows you to track your progress and change your goals. You can access it at any time by opening the app.
Part 4 of 4: fix the problems
Step 1. Make sure the device battery is at least 60%
Connect the tracker to the charger and make sure that at least three lights are on. For best results, charge it until all the lights are on.
Step 2. Try restarting your tracker
Do this if you are unable to sync it. If it is no longer functioning properly, a reset will usually resolve the problem and will not delete any data from the device.
- Plug the USB charging cable into a USB port.
- Insert the tracker into the charging unit.
- Press and hold a paper clip in the small hole on the back of the charger for about four seconds.
Step 3. Start the installation process again
If the Flex tracker does not sync, rerun the setup process. If the setup process fails, it is best to start all over again. Uninstall the Fitbit Connect app or software, then download and reinstall it. Follow the instructions to set up your device again.
Step 4. Try another device
If you can't connect your Fitbit to your computer, try setting it up with a phone or vice versa.
