Need a break from Red Dead Redemption or want to save before a tough fight? In the world of Red Dead Redemption, you can record in multiple locations. While the game will save automatically at the end of each mission, manual saving allows you to advance time and create permanent save files, so you can roll back whenever you want. You can save in homes or by using a camping tent.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using a safe house

Step 1. Find a safe and nearby home
Safe houses are indicated by a house icon on your map. The blue house icons represent houses that need to be bought or rented. Green house icons represent houses that you have bought or rented overnight.

Step 2. Tie up your horse
If you are traveling on horseback, you can ensure that your horse will not wander while you sleep by attaching the hitch from the front. Not all houses have a horse tether system.

Step 3. Approach the bed
Enter the house safely and approach the bed. You can only use the bed if you have bought or rented the house.

Step 4. Press the save button
When you are standing next to the bed, a message will appear informing you that you can save your game. Press triangle (PS3) or Y (Xbox 360) to begin the registration process. Marston then goes to lie down on the bed.

Step 5. Choose to save
When you lie down, the time advances six hours. You can choose to save or cancel to get up. This can be useful for advancing game time, bypassing the save process.

Step 6. Choose a backup file
If you choose to save, you will be prompted to select a save file. You can overwrite an existing file or create a new one.
Method 2 of 2: Using a camping tent

Step 1. Find an open space
To set up the camping tent, you will need to find an open, flat space that is neither in the city, nor in a hamlet, nor in a landmark. If you attempt to set up camp in an area that does not allow it, you will receive a message asking you to find a new location.

Step 2. Open your bag
You can set up a base camp without having to buy anything. You can access your bag by pressing choose (PS3) or back (Xbox 360).

Step 3. Select “kits”
These are your tools. Your base camp will be on the list. You can buy an upgraded campsite, but you'll save some cash with this build. Select the camp to set up.
You can also find camps that other characters have set up. These appear randomly throughout the game. You cannot check in from these camps

Step 4. Save the game
When you set up your camp, you will automatically be squatting next to it. You can start the registration process by pressing triangle (PS3) or Y (Xbox 360). Marston goes to lie down on the sleeping bag.
