How to install Pixelmon (with pictures)

Pixelmon is a mod for Minecraft. It allows you to simulate the Pokémon game, but using the graphics of the Minecraft game. You can choose between Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle and Eevee at the start of the game. You can then also capture other pokémons during the game like in the real Pokémon game.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Download the necessary files

Step 1. Download or install the Minecraft game

Pixelmon is only a mod. This means that you will need the original game (Minecraft in this case) to use it. Make sure Minecraft is closed for the rest of this article.

Step 2. Download the Pixelmon mod from its developer's website

You can save it to your desktop so that you can easily access it later.

Step 3. Download Minecraft forge

You will need this software to operate the mod. An installer is included in the files of Minecraft forge. Make sure to click "Client" when installing this program.

Step 4. Download and install Winrar

You will need a program to extract archives like Winrar in order to be able to extract files from the "Pixelmon.rar" archive. If you do not yet have such a program, we recommend that you download and install Winrar.

You can also opt for 7-zip which is a good alternative to Winrar

Part 2 of 3: Prepare Minecraft for mod installation

This part is for people who have already installed Minecraft on their computer. Ignore all the explanations in this part if you are installing Minecraft for the first time or if you want to perform a "clean install".

Step 1. Click on the “Start” button

Step 2. Enter "% APPDATA%" in the search bar

Then press the "Enter" key. A window showing a large number of folders should then open.

Step 3. Look for the “Minecraft” folder in this window

Step 4. Delete the folder

The data relating to Minecraft will then be completely deleted from your computer.

Step 5. Close the window

Once the “Minecraft” folder is deleted, you can proceed to the next step.

Part 3 of 3: install Minecraft then the Pixelmon mod

Step 1. Run the program “Minecraft

exe 'that you downloaded earlier and wait for it to open.

Once the program opens, connect to the Minecraft server.

Step 2. Once logged in, click on the “Play” button found on the Minecraft interface

Then immediately quit the game. It's time to install Pixelmon.

Step 3. Go back to where you saved the "Pixelmon" mod and open it using Winrar or another program that extracts archives

It is not necessary to extract the files from the archive at this time. Just leave the archive open

Step 4. Press the “Start” button on your desktop and re-enter “% APPDATA%” in the search bar

You will immediately notice that the “Minecraft” folder is again present in the list of folders.

Step 5. Double click on the “Minecraft” folder to open it

Now go back to where you saved the Minecraft forge program open it and click "Client" during installation.

Step 6. Go back to the "Pixelmon" archive window you left open

Highlight the "mod" and "database folder" and copy them to the "Minecraft" folder. A dialog box should then appear on the screen telling you that folders with the same names already exist. Then select the option "Replace the folder in the destination".

Step 7. Open the new Minecraft Launcher

Then click on "Edit Profile". In the “pop-up” menu that appears on the screen, click on “Use Version”. Click on the option with the name (or a similar name) "release 1, 7.2-Forge10, 12, 2 1121" then click on "Save Profile".

Step 8. Save the profile and click “Play”

Start a new game in single player mode and create a new world. You will then be immediately redirected to a page allowing you to choose the Pokémon you want to start with. Now is the time to become a Pixelmon trainer!
