Nipple covers are great for providing temporary coverage when you don't want to wear a bra. Disposable versions usually come with their own adhesive, and silicone ones that are reusable can be secured with double-sided tape or skin glue. Test any adhesive on your skin before wearing the nipple covers, and make sure the skin is clean and dry before and after using them.
Part 1 of 2: Finding the Right Nipple Cover for Her Outfit
Step 1. Choose nipple covers the same color as your skin tone
Thus, it will make them almost invisible. If your clothes are particularly loose and see-through and you don't plan on wearing a bra, choosing nipple covers that are the same color as your skin is a better option to make them less noticeable. If your clothes are slightly transparent or are slippery, these stickers will be less obvious.
Step 2. Use silicone nipple covers
Make this choice if the fabric is very transparent. These will be thicker and less visible through lightweight fabrics. Paper or fabric nipple covers often create more noticeable outlines through thin fabrics than silicone ones. Usually, you can get them in large boutiques and lingerie stores.
Step 3. Use fabric or paper nipple covers
Do this when you don't need a lot of coverage. If you are not concerned that the shape of the nipple covers is visible through clothing, the cloth or disposable versions are generally less expensive and adhere better than the silicone ones which are reusable. You can find them in beauty and clothing stores.
Step 4. Do not buy very heavy nipple covers that could fall out
If you are planning to purchase self-adhesive designs that feature glitter or tassels for a costume, remember that the heavier they are, the stronger the adhesive you should be using. If you are buying nipple covers for a costume, be sure to choose the lightest model you can find.
Step 5. Try them out at home before using them for the first time
Even though the nipple covers seem to fit well and easily stay in place, you have to wait a few hours to see if the adhesive will hold a long time before wearing them to come out. If you can move around comfortably after an hour or two, without feeling like the nipple covers have moved or might fall off, you can be sure they will stay in place when you step outside.
If they don't stay in place, you may need to try a different shape of nipple covers or a different type of adhesive
Part 2 of 2: Applying Nipple Covers Safely
Step 1. Read the instructions
Most models come with their own adhesive while others have a “suction cup effect” or require a separate adhesive. Look at the packaging of the nipple covers or the instructions provided to find out how to wear them.
Step 2. Use double-sided tape for the lighter nipple covers
If they are made of a relatively thin material and not decorated with heavy elements such as pom poms, beads or sequins, you can secure them with double-sided fabric tape. Be sure to get the type of tape designed for fabric (not paper) as it will be stronger.
- Cut small strips of duct tape to place them on the inside edges. Apply the tape to the nipple covers first, then press down to secure them in place. If you want extra security and don't mind the tape showing, you can add another long strip of tape to each nipple cover after placing them on the breasts.
- You can find duct tape for fabrics or clothing in cosmetics and lingerie stores.
Step 3. Use professional grade skin glue or adhesive
Use it for heavier nipple covers. Whimsical designs, such as those used on burlesque outfits, tend to be a bit heavier and therefore may require a stronger adhesive. If you want to wear bulky or heavy nipple covers, obtain adhesive for attaching prostheses (Spirit Gum) or special skin glue from the Internet or from a professional costume store.
Using a cotton swab or makeup brush, apply the adhesive to the inner edges of the nipple covers, then press down to secure them. Some adhesives may require you to wait a while after application for them to become tacky
Step 4. Make sure your skin is dry and clean
Whether you use adhesive nipple covers or apply glue, they will adhere better if the skin is clean and free of moisturizers, lotions, or oils. For this, it is advisable to apply the nipple covers after bathing and drying the skin.
Step 5. Test the glue on your wrist
Do this before applying it to the nipple covers. Certain types of adhesives, especially those used for costumes, can cause reactions on sensitive skin. Apply a small amount to the inside of your wrist and wait a few hours. If there is no reaction, it is safe to use the product on the nipple covers.
Step 6. Apply the adhesive to the outside edges of the nipple covers
If you are using tape or glue to secure the nipple covers, you should apply this to the outside edges and not in the middle. This will prevent it from sticking to a more sensitive part of the skin and make it easier to remove.
Step 7. Hold them in place for a few seconds
Most adhesives take a few seconds to adhere to surfaces. To be on the safe side, make sure the nipple covers are placed where you want them, then hold them firmly for a few seconds to ensure they stick.
Step 8. Clean the adhesive from your skin after removing the nipple covers
Even mild adhesives often cause skin reactions if left on the skin for too long. To keep your skin healthy, you should wash off any adhesive residue with soap and water after removing the nipple covers. Some may require additional cleaning, such as Spirit Gum, which should be removed with an acetone cleanser.
- If you have large breasts, wear tight clothing for support. While nipple covers can give you more protection, they offer very little support.
- Use double-sided tape to hold loose clothing in place. Fabric tape can be a great way to keep clothes in place, joining pieces of the fabric together or sticking them to your skin where you want it.
