Recently, you can with Facebook Messenger make a video call while modifying the video received by the other party by adding effects to it as you wish. In addition, you also have the ability to record a video, edit it with effects, and add it to Messenger Day. You just need to apply some very simple tricks to add effects to your videos on Facebook Messenger.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Add effects to videos during a video call
Step 1. Tap the Facebook Messenger app icon to open it
It's the icon with a blue bubble around a white lightning bolt. You can find it on your home screen or in the applications panel.
Step 2. Tap a contact
Use the search box at the top of your screen to find the one you want to chat with, if you can't see them.
Step 3. Press the button that represents the camera
This button is white and located in the upper right corner of the screen (in the blue band). By pressing said button, you initiate a video call. As soon as the person picks up, you can start adding effects.
Step 4. Tap the icon that looks like a smiley face
This icon (white) is located at the bottom right of your screen. Thus, you will be able to use Facebook reactions during your video call as you do during your posts and comments. Choose one of the onscreen emojis from the red heart emoji, the laughing emoji, the wow emoji, the sad emoji, or the angry emoji. By choosing the one you want, it will appear around your head on the screen (of your interlocutor).
Step 5. Tap the icon that looks like a paint drop
Thus, you will be able to use the color and lighting filters. Scroll through the options that will appear and tap one of them to add the realtime filter. By doing so, your contact will be able to see the filter you have selected on their screen.
Step 6. Tap the icon that looks like a star
By doing so, you will be able to select the masks and stickers. Similar to choosing a filter, swipe through the options that appear to add animated effects or wear a fun mask to your background.
Part 2 of 2: Add Effects to Recorded Videos
Step 1. Tap the Facebook Messenger app icon to open it
It's the icon with a blue bubble around a white lightning bolt. You can find it on your home screen or in the applications panel.
Step 2. Tap Add to your day
This button is located in the upper left corner of the screen under your profile picture. By doing so, your phone's camera will launch.
- If you want to switch from the rear camera to the front camera or vice versa, tap the icon that looks like the camera, consisting of arrows at the top of the screen (left) next to X.
Step 3. Press and hold your finger on the shutter button
Press and hold your finger for a few seconds on this button to record your video. This stops recording when you lift your finger (or when the entire shutter frame is completely red). A preview will appear on the screen as soon as the recording is complete.
Step 4. Tap the icon that looks like the smiley face
This icon is located at the top of your screen. Thus, the menu of stickers and masks will open.
- Swipe down to view each sticker or effect by category name. For example, you might see Featured, Everyday Fun, Masks and Costumes.
- You can also search for stickers by name or theme by entering a keyword in the search field at the top of the screen.
Step 5. Tap an option to apply it to your video
Remember that you can only add one of these effects to your video at a time.
Step 6. Press Aa
This button is located at the top of your screen. By tapping on it, you will be able to add text to your video. With this option you will be able to choose a color and write whatever you want. When finished, tap the check mark at the top right of your screen.
Step 7. Tap the icon that looks like the wavy line to draw pictures
This icon is located at the top (right) of the screen. With this option you will be able to draw or paint your video. Pick a color located on the right side of your screen and draw your image. After you're done, tap the check mark at the top right of your screen.
Step 8. Tap the icon that looks like an arrow pointing to the right
This icon is located in the lower right corner of your screen. Thus, you will be redirected to the sharing screen.
Step 9. Tap My Day
Select this option if you want to share the video on Messenger Day. Otherwise, skip this step.
Step 10. Select the contacts to whom you want to send the video
Press the circle (reserved for the profile picture) located to the left of the names of your contacts, if you want to send your video directly to them.
Step 11. Press Send
This button (blue) looks like a paper airplane and is located at the bottom right of your screen. This will allow you to send your newly edited video (and post it on Messenger Day, if you had selected this option).
