How to indicate your presence in a place on Facebook

The mobile application and the Facebook website allow you to indicate your presence in a given location.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Indicate your presence in a place with the mobile application

Step 1. Launch the application

Open Facebook, it's a blue circle with a white "f" in the middle.

Step 2. Tap Speak Up

The link is at the top of the screen.

Step 3. Choose I'm Here

This is one of the options available at the bottom of the screen.

If asked, give Facebook permission to access your location

Step 4. Enter a location

Choose a location for which you want to indicate your presence. If the place does not appear in the list, select the field Find places at the top of the screen. Type the beginning of the place name and select it when it appears.

If the place, for which you want to indicate your presence, is not listed in the Facebook database, you will be asked to add it. To do this, press the + blue when it appears in the results location and follow the instructions that appear.

Step 5. Display the keyboard

Tap under your profile picture, in the area where it says Express yourself. The keyboard will then appear.

Step 6. Write a comment

Add a comment to your attendance indication.

If you want to add friends to your post, tap Identify friends, this is at the bottom of the screen and enter the names of the people you are with. If you don't see their names, select the search bar at the top of the screen and start entering their names. Then, tap the names when they appear. Press on Ended, in the upper right-hand corner, after you have finished tagging your friends.

Step 7. Tap Publish

The link is at the top right. You have now indicated your presence in a location on Facebook.

Method 2 of 2: Indicate your presence in a place with a computer

Step 1. Open Facebook

Using your browser, go to

Step 2. Click on Have your say…

This is the text field at the top of the window. then click on the 3 dots to the right of “mood / acti…” to access new options.

Step 3. Click I'm Here

It's the location icon that looks like an inverted teardrop with a white circle inside. It sits just below the field Express yourself.

Step 4. Select Where are you?

A list of places where you have already indicated your presence will appear in a drop-down menu. If you can see your location, click on it

Step 5. Type the name of the place

Type the name of the place where you are and for which you wish to indicate your presence.

Step 6. Select the location

Click to select the location when it appears.

Step 7. Click Express Yourself

Step 8. Type a comment

You can add a comment to the presence indication.

Add friends. If you want to add friends to your post, click on the icon, Identify friends. It is a silhouette with a + at the bottom of the dialog box. Start by typing the name of a friend you are with. Then, click on its name when it appears. Repeat this for all the friends you want to tag.

Step 9. Click Publish

You have now indicated your presence in a location on Facebook.

Warnings

Remember that people who are not on your friends list can see where you have indicated your presence, especially if your profile is public. Do not indicate your presence in a place, if you do not want people to know where you are.
