On Facebook, connecting 2 friends who are not yet connected has become more complicated since the “Suggest friends” function has disappeared. Fortunately, there are several ways to connect 2 of your Facebook contacts when using a computer, phone or tablet.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Send a profile link to a phone or tablet
Step 1. Open Facebook on your phone or tablet
It's the blue icon with a white "f" inside. It's usually found on the Home screen, but if you're using an Android, you'll find it in the app drawer.
Step 2. Open the profile of one of your 2 friends
You can search for your friend by tapping on the magnifying glass icon at the top right of the screen.
Step 3. Tap the blue and white Friends icon
This icon represents the silhouette of a person's head and shoulders. It is to the right of the button Message.
Step 4. Select Copy Link
This option is under the heading Link to the profile of (name) in the center of the menu. Tap on it to copy the profile link to your clipboard.
- You may need to press OK to continue.
Step 5. Go to the other person's profile
Now that you've copied the link, you can send it to the other person via a new Facebook message.
- If you want to send the profile link in an email or through another messaging application, you can paste the URL you copied into the message by making a long press in the text field and then selecting To stick on.
Step 6. Press the blue Message button
This button is located under the person's name at the top of the profile page. It opens a new message in the Messenger application.
If you don't have the Messenger app on your device, follow the onscreen instructions to install it. You will need it to send Facebook messages on your phone or tablet
Step 7. Long press the text field at the bottom of the message
You will see a menu appear.
Step 8. Select Paste from the menu
The person's profile link will be pasted into the message.
Step 9. Send your message
Press the button shaped like a paper plane (or an arrow depending on the platform and version used) to send your message. Once the message has been sent, the recipient can press the link it contains to open the profile and press Add to send a friend request.
Method 2 of 4: Send a profile link to a computer
Step 1. Open Facebook in a web browser
One of the best ways to help a friend connect with another is to send them a profile link. Copy the link and then send it in a new message (on Facebook or in your favorite messaging app).
If you are not yet signed in to Facebook, sign in first
Step 2. Go to the profile of one of your 2 friends
You can use the bar at the top of the screen to search.
Step 3. Highlight the web address
The full address of the open profile is displayed at the top of your browser. It looks something like facebook.com/wikiHow.
To highlight the full address, click on the address bar. If that doesn't work, click once on the address bar and then press Ctrl + A (on Windows) or ⌘ Cmd + A (on Mac)
Step 4. Press Ctrl + C (on PC) or ⌘ Cmd + C (on Mac).
The profile link will be copied to your clipboard.
Step 5. Go to the other person's profile
Now that you've copied the link, you can send it to the other person in a new Facebook message.
- If you want to send the profile link by email or other messaging app, paste it into the message by right clicking on the text field and then selecting To stick on.
Step 6. Click the Message button
You'll find it in the row of buttons to the right of the person's name that appears in the cover photo. Click on it to open a new message for your friend at the bottom right of the page.
Step 7. Paste the profile link
Right click in the text field (the field with the mention "Write a message" at the bottom of the message) then select To stick on. The copied URL will appear in the field.
Step 8. Press Enter Where Return.
A clickable link will be sent to the recipient of the message who can click on it to view the other person's profile.
- If the recipient wishes to add the other person after viewing their profile, they will just have to click on Add to the right of his name.
Method 3 of 4: Send a group message on a phone or tablet
Step 1. Open Facebook Messenger on your phone or tablet
The Facebook Messenger app icon looks like a blue and white chat bubble with a white lightning bolt inside. You will find it either on the home screen or in the application drawer.
If you don't have Facebook Messenger, you'll need to install it from the App Store (on iPhone / iPad) or the Play Store (on Android)
Step 2. Tap the new message icon
It's the pencil icon (with a piece of paper if you're using an iPhone or iPad) located at the top right of the app.
Step 3. Select the 2 friends you want to connect
You can scroll down the window and tap on the 2 people in the list or search for them using the search bar at the top of the screen. Just be sure to select only the friends you want to connect. They will both be added to the field TO at the top of the message.
Step 4. Type a message
Tap the blank text field at the bottom of the message then type a message to introduce your 2 friends to each other.
If you want you can say something like, "This is just a message to put the two of you in touch!" "
Step 5. Press the submit button
The submit button may appear as a paper airplane or an arrow depending on the platform and version used. Tap it to create a group message. All the messages that you send or that your 2 friends send will be received by all the members of the group.
Step 6. Leave the conversation (optional)
If you no longer wish to be part of the conversation between your 2 friends, you can leave it. Tap the names of the people you're communicating with at the top of the chat and then select Leave the conversation (on iPhone / iPad) or Leave the group (on Android).
Method 4 of 4: Send a group message on a computer
Step 1. Open Facebook in a web browser
Sending a link is one of the best ways to connect 2 of your Facebook friends. Once you've copied the profile link, you can paste it into a new post (on Facebook or any messaging app of your choice).
If you are not yet signed in to Facebook, do so now
Step 2. Click on the Messenger icon
The Messenger icon looks like a chat bubble with a lightning bolt inside. It is at the top of the page (in the blue bar) and opens a menu.
Step 3. Select New Message
The option New message is located at the top right of the menu.
Step 4. Add your 2 friends in the To field
Start by typing the name of one of your friends. As you type, you will see a list of search results appear. Click on the correct profile in the results and then do the same to find the other friend.
Step 5. Type an introductory message
Tap the blank text field at the bottom and type your message.
For example, you can type "Just a message to introduce you to each other!" "
Step 6. Press Enter Where Return to send the message.
This will create a group message. All the messages that you type or that your 2 friends type in response will be received by all members of the group.
Step 7. Leave the conversation (optional)
If you no longer wish to participate in the exchange between your 2 friends, you can withdraw from the conversation. Click on the cogwheel icon at the top right of the message, select Leave the group then Leave the conversation.
