Found something interesting on Facebook and want to share it with your contacts? The social network allows you to easily share other people's content, be it status updates, images, videos or more. Typically, when you use the sharing feature on a friend's post, you create a new post without any likes or comments. If you want to keep likes and comments on content, like or comment on it to get it to the top of your friend's feed.

Method 1 of 2: Share with comments and likes

Repost on Facebook Step 1

Step 1. Find the content you want to share

If you want to keep the likes and comments of a post or photo when you share it, you will need to comment on it. It is possible to comment on another user's post or image.

  • You can also use this method to re-post an old post that you created or that was created by a friend. Find the original post (you may need to revamp your feed) and go to the next step.
  • It's not exactly what you call "sharing," but it's the only way to get a post to the top of someone's feed without losing likes or comments. If you are using the To share of a post, you'll create a new post and remove likes and comments.

Step 2. Comment on the post or photo

The post or photo will move to the top of your news feed and be visible on your friends news feed. This tip can be used for old posts that you want to "dig up" or posts that your friends can't normally see.

You may also like the old post, but it's unlikely to rise to the top of the feed

Step 3. Avoid the Share button

If you want to keep comments and likes, do not use the button To share. This button creates a new post with the same content on your news feed, but it doesn't keep the original comments and likes. However, you will have control over the new post.

Method 2 of 2: Share content with your friends

Repost on Facebook Step 4

Step 1. Find the content you want to share

You can share virtually anything that has been posted by another user. Scroll down your news feed to find the status, photo, link, or other post you want to share with your friends. Only posts published in secret groups cannot be shared.

Original comments and likes will not be retained. If you want to share content posted by someone else and keep all likes and comments, you will need to respond to the post with a new comment

Step 2. Click the Share link

This link is under the post, just above the likes and comments.

Click the share link to open a new window and use the drop-down menu at the top of the new window to choose where to share the content. You can share it on your own journal, on a friend's journal, in one of your groups, or by private message.

  • If you choose to share it on a friend's diary, you will be asked to enter the name of the friend in question.
  • If you choose to share it in a group, you will be prompted to enter the group name.
  • If you choose to share it by private message, you will first need to enter the recipients' names.

Step 7. Share the post

Once you are satisfied with your sharing options, you can share the post by clicking on the button To share. The post will appear in the news feed or post you set.

Depending on the privacy settings of the original post, you may not be able to share it with everyone

  • These tips can also be used on the mobile versions of Facebook.
  • If the post doesn't have a share link, you'll need to copy and paste its content into your own Facebook post.
