If you don't need the Facebook Messenger app on your iPhone or Android phone, you can uninstall it. Removing the application will automatically log you out of Messenger on your phone, but you will still be able to communicate with other users through the Facebook website. If you no longer want to use Facebook chats, you can also delete your account.
Method 1 of 3: On iPhone
Step 1. Look for the Facebook Messenger application icon
The Facebook Messenger app icon looks like a blue chat bubble with a white lightning bolt on it. You'll find it on one of your iPhone's home screens.
Step 2. Long press the app icon
All applications on the screen will begin to shake.
Step 3. Press X
The "X" is located at the top left of the Messenger app icon.
Step 4. Choose Delete at the command prompt
The Facebook Messenger app will be deleted from your iPhone.
You can always download it for free from the App Store later
Method 2 of 3: Use the Settings app on Android
Step 1. Open settings
Tap the Settings app icon that looks like a white cogwheel on a light blue background.

Step 2. Tap Apps & Notifications
This option is at the top of the menu, however you may need to scroll down to find it on some phones. Tap it to open a list of apps installed on your phone.
- On some phones (like Samsung Galaxy), this menu simply says Apps.
Step 3. Select the Facebook Messenger application
Scroll through the list of available applications to Facebook Messenger and then tap it.
- You may need to press Show all apps Or on App Information before you can find the Facebook Messenger app.
Step 4. Choose Uninstall
This option is usually at the top of the screen.
If you see DISABLE there, tap it instead
Step 5. Tap Uninstall Where OK.
The Messenger app will be deleted from your Android.
Method 3 of 3: Use the Google Play Store on Android
Step 1. Open the
Google Play Store.
Tap the Google Play Store app icon. It looks like a multicolored triangle on a white background.
Step 2. Press ☰
This button is located at the top left of the screen and opens a context menu.
Step 3. Select My games & apps
This option is found in the context menu. Tap on it to open a list of apps on your Android.
Step 4. Go to the Installed Applications tab
You will find this tab at the top of the screen.
Step 5. Tap Messenger - Text and Video Chat for Free
Scroll down to the Messenger app icon and tap it. This will open the Messenger application page.
Step 6. Choose Uninstall
This option is at the top of the Messenger application page.
Step 7. Select OK at the command prompt
This will confirm your decision and the Facebook Messenger app will be deleted from your Android.
- The steps for iPhone in this article also work on an iPad, while the steps for Android apply to all tablets running Android 7 (Nougat) and later.
