It happens to all of us. We try to go to an online gaming site at work or at school, only to find that our browser is blocking it. Bypass the restriction with these simple steps.
Steps
Step 1. Open Internet Explorer
Step 2. From the menu at the top of the window, choose Tools
Step 3. Select Internet Options from the drop-down list
Step 4. Click the Security tab
Step 5. Click Restricted Sites
Step 6. Find the site you want to unblock
Step 7. Select the site and click Remove
Step 8. Note
This method will not work if the “Internet Options” button is locked.
Advice
- Sophisticated administrators and parents use a password to prevent users from making the changes described in this article.
- If you are using a computer in a location that provides you with DNS, network administrators can filter and record whatever they want. This is the most common way of operating in business (and in government).
- None of this will work if the site has been blocked from the router or network gateway responsible for the connection.
- Restrictions from the browser are only one of the many ways to block access to certain sites or content.
Warnings
- Just because you have gained access to a blocked site does not mean you have carte blanche. If administrators lock down and log internet activity, they could log every action they take and every piece of data you send and receive, only to punish you for bypassing their meager security.
- Attempts to lift restrictions and access locked sites can be logged. Some school systems perceive it as vandalism and you could be suspended, fired or arrested for your actions.
- Administrators can restrict access to the “Security” tab.
