Nowadays, it is possible to browse in incognito mode in most browsers, something inspired by the mode. private navigation from Google Chrome. In the Internet Explorer browser, the incognito mode is called InPrivate Navigation. When you navigate in this mode, nothing you do will be recorded. The mode InPrivate Navigation is available in the Desktop and Metro version of Internet Explorer.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Browse incognito mode in the desktop version of Internet Explorer
If you're using a Surface or Windows tablet, see the next section.

Step 1. Access Internet Explorer
To use InPrivate mode, make sure you have Internet Explorer 8 or higher.
- If you have Internet Explorer 7 or higher, then this is a fairly recent version.
- To find out which version you are using, select the gear button or the menu Aid and click on About Internet Explorer.

Step 2. To activate the incognito mode, select the gear button or the Tools menu
If you cannot find either, press the key. Alt and select the menu Tools which appears. The incognito window will open.
- Alternatively, you can also press the keys Ctrl + Shift + P.

Step 3. Browse privately in the new window
By navigating in this window, your browsing history or your data will not be saved. All tabs in this window will be private, but note that this does not protect you from your boss or anyone else controlling your web activity.

Step 4. Set the browser to always open in incognito mode
If you often use incognito mode, you will find it more enjoyable that your browser always starts up in this mode.
- Right click on the Internet Explorer icon then choose Properties.
- Find the field Target in the tab Shortcut.
- Add -private at the end of each target. Make sure to include a space between the end of the target and the -.
- Select To apply to save the changes. Internet Explorer will start in incognito mode each time you use this shortcut.
Method 2 of 2: Browse incognito mode in the Metro version of Internet Explorer

Step 1. Launch Internet Explorer
This method applies to the Metro version of Internet Explorer 11 that comes with Windows 8.

Step 2. Select the Tabs button
You will find this button at the bottom of the screen, to the right of the address bar. You will access the menu Tabs.

Step 3. Select the button
at the top of the Tabs menu and choose New InPrivate Tab. A new private tab will open.

Step 4. Use the Tabs menu to switch from the incognito window to a normal window
Private tabs will be marked so that you can identify them.
