Firefox is an Internet browser used by many people around the world. It is available for Mac and PC as well as for some tablets. Part of its popularity comes from the fact that it can be customized extensively with numerous extensions. In addition, it is less prone to infection by computer viruses than Internet Explorer browser. However, it can be useful to know how to uninstall Firefox if it keeps bugging or you just want to use a different browser.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: Uninstall Firefox on Windows 7
Step 1. Open your computer's Control Panel
Click on the button To start up which is on your desktop. You will then see the Start menu divided into two sections: one, on the left, listing the programs you use regularly and another, on the right, with different options on a gray background. These options include links to access the My Documents and Photos folders. You should see a link further down in this section titled Control panel. Click on it.
Step 2. Open the Uninstall a program submenu
Once the Control Panel window opens, you should see various menus such as System and Security or Network and Internet. Then find the menu Programs. Below this menu is a submenu called Uninstall a program. Click on it.
Step 3. Select Mozilla Firefox
After clicking Uninstall a program, a list of programs installed on your computer will appear on the screen. Scroll down that list until you find the Firefox program. Then highlight it by clicking on it and then click on the button Uninstall which is in the menu bar, just above the list of programs.
Step 4. Uninstall Firefox
The Firefox uninstaller should now be displayed on the screen. You will then have to confirm your choice to uninstall Firefox. Click on Following to confirm your choice (instead of Cancel). Then click on Uninstall.
Step 5. Click Finish to close the uninstaller window
Step 6. Delete the files and folders associated with Firefox that are still present on your computer
It is possible that some files or folders were not removed by the Firefox uninstaller. You will then have to delete them manually. Before you start, however, you'll need to find out if your version of Windows 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit. To know the version of your operating system see this article.
- If your computer has a 32-bit version of Windows 7, delete this folder: C: \ Program Files \ Mozilla Firefox.
- If your computer has a 64-bit version of Windows 7, delete this folder: C: \ Program Files (x86) Mozilla Firefox.
Method 2 of 5: Uninstall Firefox on Windows 8
Step 1. Open your computer's Control Panel
Place your mouse cursor in one of the right corners of your screen then move it slightly to the left to bring up the Charms menu. Then click on To research and type "Control Panel" in the search bar. Finally click on the Control Panel icon.
Step 2. Click on the Programs and Features menu
It will be easier for you to find the Programs and Features menu if you display the various menus as icons.
Step 3. Select Mozilla Firefox
A new menu should have appeared on the screen after you click on Programs and Features. You will find in this menu a list of the different programs installed on your computer. Scroll down that list until you find Firefox. Then highlight it by clicking on it once and then click on the button. Uninstall.
Step 4. Uninstall Firefox
The Firefox uninstaller should now be open. You will then have to confirm your choice to uninstall Firefox. Click on Following to confirm your choice (instead of Cancel). Then click on Uninstall.
Step 5. Click Finish to close the uninstaller window
Step 6. Delete the Firefox related files and folders that are still present on your computer
It is possible that some files or folders were not removed by the Firefox uninstaller. You will then have to delete them manually. In particular, we recommend that you delete all of the content of this folder: C: \ Program Files (x86) Mozilla Firefox.
Method 3 of 5: Uninstall Firefox from Windows 10
Step 1. Press Start
Write Applications and Features and go to this window. Here you have the list of programs installed on your machine. Scroll down until you find Mozilla Firefox. Click on it.
Step 2. Choose Uninstall
If you are asked to confirm, press Yes.
Step 3. Uninstall Firefox
Click on Following and wait for your PC to uninstall the application.
Step 4. Explain (or not) the reason for the uninstallation
You can check a box to tell Mozilla why you no longer want to use Firefox.
Step 5. Clean your machine
Some folders and files are not removed during uninstallation, you have to search for them manually and searching with the words Mozilla and Firefox. Usually some are left in C: \ Programs Files \ Mozilla Firefox.
Method 4 of 5: Uninstall Firefox from a Mac
Step 1. Open Finder
Finder provides easy access to all the programs, files, and folders on your Mac. Using Finder is the best way to completely uninstall Firefox from your Mac as well as remove all associated folders and files (this is especially useful if you want to reinstall Firefox afterwards).
Step 2. Uninstall the Firefox application
You can search for the file "Firefox.app" or simply enter "Firefox" in the search bar then click on the menu Applications which is on the left of the Finder window. Then click on the file and drop it in the trash (it is outside the Finder window, at the bottom of your desktop screen).
Step 3. Delete the files associated with Firefox
Firefox tends to generate a lot of files which are scattered all over your computer. Find the following files and delete them.
- All the contents of these folders: / Users / User / Library / Application Support / Firefox / and / Users / User / Library / Caches / Firefox.
- All files listed under the name "Preferences / org.mozilla.firefox.plist" that are in one of these libraries: "User", "Admin" or "Bll".
Method 5 of 5: Uninstall Firefox from a tablet
Step 1. Turn on your Android tablet and unlock it
Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox browser, has only made Firefox available on mobile devices with a certain screen size and running the Android operating system (other versions have been tested, but collaborations between Firefox developers and Apple or Amazon companies turned out to be complicated).
Step 2. Tap the Settings icon
You may need to access the Menu screen first to be able to see this icon.
Step 3. Select Applications or Application Manager
This menu may have a different name depending on the tablet you have. In any case, a list showing the different applications installed on your tablet should appear on the screen.
Step 4. Select Firefox
Find the Firefox app within this long list. The list of applications installed on your tablet is usually sorted in alphabetical order.
Step 5. Tap Uninstall
The application will then be uninstalled from your tablet. A notification should appear on the screen a few seconds after you press this button to confirm that the application has been successfully uninstalled.
