You can log in to WhatsApp Web or the WhatsApp desktop application by scanning a QR code with your phone. The QR code scanner available in the WhatsApp application can only scan codes used to log in on a desktop computer. If you want to scan other QR codes, you still have the option of using your phone.
Method 1 of 2: On iPhone
Step 1. Log in to WhatsApp Web
Open the WhatsApp Web site in your browser. If you are not yet logged in, you will see a QR code as a black and white square in the middle of the page.
If you're trying to sign in with the desktop version of WhatsApp, open the desktop program instead of the website. The QR code will be in the middle of the window that appears
Step 2. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone
Tap the WhatsApp app icon that looks like a white phone in a white chat bubble on a green background.
If you are not signed in to WhatsApp on your phone, you will need to enter your phone number and verify it at the command prompt before proceeding to the next step
Step 3. Tap Settings
It's the cogwheel icon at the bottom right of the screen. Tap on it to open the settings page.
If WhatsApp opens in a conversation, first tap the back button at the top left of the screen
Step 4. Select WhatsApp Web
This is the option at the top of the screen.
Step 5. Press OK, understand
This will open the WhatsApp QR code scanner.
- If you're signed in to WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp for desktops, press Scan the QR code in the middle of the page.
Step 6. Point your phone's camera at the QR code
Place your phone about a foot away from your computer screen.
Step 7. Wait for the scan to finish
Once the code has been scanned, the WhatsApp Web page will open and you will see your messages as well as your conversations.
Method 2 of 2: On Android
Step 1. Log in to this page
This is the WhatsApp Web site and you will see a black and white square shaped QR code appear in the middle of the page if you are already logged in.
If you prefer to use the desktop version of WhatsApp, click on it to open it. You will see the QR code appear in the middle of the window
Step 2. Open the WhatsApp application on your Android
Tap the WhatsApp app icon (it looks like a green and white chat bubble with a white phone handset inside).
If you are not signed in to WhatsApp on your phone, first enter and then verify your phone number
Step 3. Press ⋮
It's the button at the top right of the screen. Tap on it to open a drop-down menu.
If the app opens in a chat, press the Back button to return to the main WhatsApp page
Step 4. Choose WhatsApp Web
This option is in the drop-down menu and opens the WhatsApp QR code scanner page.
Step 5. Press OK, I got it at the command prompt
The QR code scanner will open.
- If you are logged in to WhatsApp Web or the desktop app, you will need to press the button first. ＋ in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 6. Point the scanner at the QR code
You should place your phone's camera approximately one foot away from your computer screen.
Step 7. Wait for WhatsApp to scan for the code
When this is done, the WhatsApp Web page will open and you will see your messages displayed in the window.
- If you wait too long, the QR code will expire. In this case, just click Click to update your QR code in the green circle in the middle of the code field to refresh it.
- You can log out of the computers on which you were logged in to your WhatsApp account by opening the WhatsApp Web section of the application and then selecting Disconnect all devices.
