For privacy, you can turn the time stamp on or off on WhatsApp. This option displays the time you were last online and the time you read messages from your contacts.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using an iPhone

Step 1. Open WhatsApp
The app icon looks like a white phone in a white chat bubble on a green background.
If this is your first time opening WhatsApp, you need to set it up first

Step 2. Tap Settings
This option is located at the bottom right of the screen.
If the app opens in a conversation, first tap the back button at the top left of the screen

Step 3. Select Account
The option Account is at the top of the page.

Step 4. Go to Privacy
This option is at the top of the page Account.

Step 5. Tap Seen At
This is the first option on the page Confidentiality. It contains 3 new options.
- Everybody: Anyone with your contact details can see the time you last logged in.
- My contacts: Only people in your contacts list can see the time you last logged in.
- Anybody: No one will be able to see the time you last logged in and you too will not be able to see the time that other users last logged in.

Step 6. Select one of the available options
This will turn the timestamp on or off depending on your preferences.
If you turn on the timestamp, it will be visible under the contact's name at the top of the WhatsApp conversation
Method 2 of 2: Android

Step 1. Open WhatsApp
This is the green app with a white phone icon on a green and white chat bubble.
If this is your first time signing in to WhatsApp, you'll need to set it up first

Step 2. Press ⋮
This button is located at the top right of the screen.
If WhatsApp opens in a conversation, first tap the back button at the top left of the screen

Step 3. Go to Settings
This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Step 4. Select Account
The option Contact is at the top of the page.

Step 5. Tap Privacy
This option is at the top of the page Account.

Step 6. Choose Seen At
Seen at is at the top of the page Confidentiality and includes 3 options.
- Everybody: Anyone with your details can see the time you were last logged in (selected by default).
- My contacts: Only people on your contact list can see the time you were last logged in.
- Anybody: No one will see the time you were last logged in. If you choose this option, you too will not be able to see the time that other users were last logged in.

Step 7. Tap one of the available options
The timestamp will be enabled or disabled depending on the option selected.
If you turn on the time stamp, you'll see the time your contacts were last connected under their name at the top of the WhatsApp conversation
Advice
- You can also activate or deactivate read receipts from the menu Confidentiality.
