It can be difficult to send messages abroad without using a cross-platform instant messaging system. WhatsApp is one of the few applications that allows you to exchange messages and call abroad for free via your smartphone. With WhatsApp, you have the ease of sending and receiving messages with your contacts all over the world.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Set up WhatsApp

Step 1. Go to an online app store
If you are using a phone running Android it will be Google Play Store and if you are running iOS it will be the App Store.

Step 2. Write WhatsApp in the app store text box
Press on To research if you finish. You should see the WhatsApp app appear at the top of the search results.

Step 3. Click on the Download option
So the download will start.
- On Android you will see To install.

Step 4. Tap on the application icon to open it
You will need to set up WhatsApp before you can send a message.

Step 5. Allow WhatsApp to access your contacts
Press on OK. This will take you to the page on the terms and conditions of using the application.

Step 6. Tap Accept and continue
This will take you to a field where you will enter your phone number.

Step 7. Enter your number for verification
You will receive an SMS containing a verification code from WhatsApp.

Step 8. Enter the code in the field provided
If you don't make a mistake, your phone number will be confirmed and you will be redirected to the account creation page.

Step 9. Enter your name and add a photo
This is optional, but if you add one, it will allow your contacts to recognize you.
- You can also tap the option Using Facebook Information to use your Facebook account name and profile picture.

Step 10. Tap Next to continue
You can now send messages via WhatsApp.
Part 2 of 2: Send a Message by WhatsApp

Step 1. Tap the Chat icon at the bottom of the screen
This will open a blank page. After chatting with someone, your chat history will appear there.
- You can also press the icon Contacts located at the bottom of your screen to display a list of all your contacts using WhatsApp.

Step 2. Tap the New Message icon
This is located in the upper right corner of the screen. By pressing this icon you will see a list of all your contacts using WhatsApp.
WhatsApp automatically integrates your smartphone's saved contacts, but you won't be able to send messages to contacts who don't use WhatsApp

Step 3. Type the name of a contact
This will select that contact to start a chat.

Step 4. Write your message
You should be able to use any keyboard or emoji installed on the phone.
You can also add a photo to the message by tapping the camera-like icon to the right of the chat field. Then select an image from your gallery

Step 5. Tap Send to send the message
The recipient will receive it as soon as they are connected.
