3 ways to leave a WhatsApp group

Find out how to get out of a group conversation on WhatsApp. You will then no longer be able to receive messages or participate in the group chat. You can leave a group chat on all versions of WhatsApp, including for iPhone, Android, and desktop.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: On iPhone

Step 1. Open WhatsApp

Tap the WhatsApp app icon, which looks like a white telephone receiver within a green text bubble. If you have already configured WhatsApp, the last page you opened will be displayed.

If you haven't set up WhatsApp yet, do so before continuing

Step 2. Tap the Discussions tab

This bubble icon is located at the bottom of the screen.

If WhatsApp opens to one of your chats, first press the button Return at the top left of the screen.

Step 3. Select a discussion

Tap the conversation you want to leave. It will open.

Step 4. Tap the name of the conversation

It's at the top left of the screen. The settings page for this conversation will open.

Step 5. Scroll down and press Leave group

This red text icon is at the bottom of the page.

Step 6. Choose EXIT when it appears

This will confirm your choice and remove you from the group.

Leaving a group may not remove it from the page Discussions. If so, swipe right to left over the conversation from the page Discussions, choose More and press twice Delete group to delete the chat.

Method 2 of 3: On Android

Step 1. Open WhatsApp

Tap the WhatsApp app icon, which looks like a white telephone receiver within a green bubble. If you have already configured WhatsApp, the last page you opened will be displayed.

If you haven't set up WhatsApp yet, do so before continuing

Step 2. Tap the Discussions tab

This bubble icon is located at the bottom of the screen. The list of your discussions will open.

If WhatsApp opens on one of your chats, first press the button Return at the top left of the screen.

Step 3. Make a long press on the group to leave

After about a second, you will see a check mark appear next to the group name.

At this point, you can tap other groups or discussions to select them as well

Step 4. Press ⋮

It's at the top right of the screen. A drop-down menu will open.

Step 5. Tap Leave Group

You'll find this option at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

If you have selected more than one group, Leave groups will appear.

Step 6. Tap Leave Group

You will be removed from the group you selected.

Leaving a group may not remove it from the page Discussions. If this is the case, do a long press on the group chat in the tab DISCUSSIONS to select it, tap the small recycle bin at the top of the screen, and choose TO DELETE when prompted.

Method 3 of 3: On the computer application or a browser

Step 1. Open WhatsApp on your computer

You can find the desktop version of WhatsApp in the menu To start up

(Windows) or in the folder Applications (Mac).

This method also works the WhatsApp for Web page, but you will need to sign in to WhatsApp Web first

Step 2. Select a conversation

Click on the group chat to leave on the left of the page.

Step 3. Click ∨

This icon appears at the top right of the chat window. A drop-down menu will appear.

Click this icon in the chat window and not in the chat list on the left of the page

Step 4. Click Leave Group

It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Step 5. Click EXIT when prompted

Your choice is confirmed and you will be removed from the group.

Advice

When you leave a group, you will no longer see messages or notifications from that group

Warnings

Leaving a group will send a message to all of its members, indicating (your name) left the group.
