If you have an iPhone or Android phone, you can set up and use WhatsApp to send messages or call other users. WhatsApp is a free messaging application that you can use using a wireless connection or a data connection.

Part 1 of 8: Set up WhatsApp

WhatsApp will send you a verification code by text message.

Open the application you use to send and receive messages.

This step varies depending on what you have chosen previously.

  • Document: go to the location of the document you want to send, select a document then press Send.
  • Location: accept all the permissions requested by your phone then press Send your location to send the map of your current location.
  • Contact: choose a contact, check their information, then press Send.
  • Audio: choose an audio file then press OK.

Step 6. Change the formatting of your message

It is possible to change the formatting of the messages using different tags.

  • Bold: to make text bold, place an asterisk before and after the text in question (for example, * hello * will become Hello).
  • Italics: Place an underscore at the beginning and end of the text you want to italicize (for example, _goodbye_ will become goodbye).
  • Strikethrough: Place a tilde on each side of the text to strike it out (for example, ~ pineapple belongs on a pizza ~).
  • Hunting: place 3 back apostrophes before and after the text you want to modify (for example `` I am a robot``` will become

Step 9. Invite a friend to use WhatsApp

WhatsApp gives you the option to add a friend to your contact list who does not use the app.

  • Open the new discussions page.
  • Scroll down the page then press Invite friends on WhatsApp (on Android you will see Invite friends instead of this option).
  • Choose a shipping method (for example Message).
  • Enter your friend's contact details.
  • Send the invitation.

Part 6 of 8: Create a discussion group

Press the back button to return to the discussions page.

This option is at the top of the chats page and opens a list of your WhatsApp contacts.

  • If you are using an Android device, press first at the top right of the screen then press New group from the drop-down menu.

Tap the contacts you want to add to your chat group.

A discussion group can have up to 256 people

Step 5. Enter a group name

Type in the dedicated field the name you want to give to your group.

  • Group names are limited to 25 characters.
  • You can add a photo to the group by tapping the camera icon, choosing a photo type, and then taking or selecting a photo.

This option is located at the top right of the screen. Tap on it to create and then open your chat group.

Step 7. Send messages to all group members

Once the newsgroup is created, you will be able to send messages, files, and emoticons as usual.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to make audio or video calls with members of the discussion group

Part 7 of 8: Create WhatsApp Status

Before pressing the circular capture button, point the phone's lens at the object you want to photograph.

  • If you prefer a text status, type the text you want to use. To change the background color, tap the paint palette icon and T to change the text font.

Part 8 of 8: Use the WhatsApp camera

Point your phone's camera at the object you want to photograph and then press the circular button at the bottom of the screen.

At the top of the screen, tap the rotation box icon and then the square and arrow icon at the bottom left until you get the orientation you want. Press on Ended to save your changes.

Tap the T-shaped icon at the top right of the screen and then select a color from the vertical color bar on the right before entering the text you want to add to your photo.

At the top right of the screen, tap the pencil icon, select a color from the vertical color bar on the right, and then slide your finger across the photo.

Step 8. Choose a location

You can send the photo to a chat by tapping on the chat name or send it to someone in the section Frequently contacted. You can also send it to your status by pressing My status at the top of the page.

This button is located at the bottom right of the screen and allows you to send the photo you have taken.

  • On Android, tap the send icon

Advice

  • Delete your old conversations if your talk page starts to fill up.
  • If you don't want to create a newsgroup, you can use a mailing list to send a message to multiple contacts.

Warnings

  • If you have a limited internet plan and are not connected to a wireless network, using WhatsApp could increase your phone bill. To avoid additional data billing, close the app when using mobile data.
  • WhatsApp is not available on tablets, but it can be installed on an Android device using an APK file.
