How to invite friends on WhatsApp (with pictures)

Do you use WhatsApp and want your friends to use the app too? You can invite someone from your contact list to download and join WhatsApp.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Use iPhone

Step 1. Open WhatsApp

It's the green app with a white phone icon and a chat bubble.

If this is your first time opening WhatsApp on your phone, you will need to configure the app first

Step 2. Tap Settings

This button is located at the bottom right of the screen.

If WhatsApp opens in a conversation, first tap the back button at the top left

Step 3. Scroll down and tap Invite a friend

You will find this option at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4. Tap Message

This option is in the middle of the pop-up window.

You can also choose other invitation options like Facebook Where Twitter, but these methods will not send a message directly to a friend or a group of friends.

Step 5. Tap a friend's name

You can press as many names as you want.

The names that appear here are the names of people who don't use WhatsApp in the Contacts app on your iPhone.
To search for a specific contact, use the search bar at the top of the screen.

Step 6. Tap Send [number] invitations

This option is located at the bottom right of the screen and opens a new message window with a link to WhatsApp.

If you only tap on a name, you will see Send 1 invitation.

Step 7. Press the send arrow

This is the green (for text messages) or blue (for iMessage) icon to the right of the text field at the bottom of the screen. Tap on it to send a WhatsApp invitation to the selected person (or selected people). If they download and join WhatsApp, you will have the option to contact them through the app.

Method 2 of 2: Use an Android phone

Step 1. Launch the application

The WhatsApp icon is green with a white phone and a chat bubble on it.

If you've never used WhatsApp before on your device, you'll need to set up the app before doing anything

Step 2. Press ⋮

You will find this button at the top right of the screen.

If WhatsApp opens in a conversation, press first ← at the top left of the screen.

Step 3. Select Settings

This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Step 4. Tap Contacts

You will find this option at the bottom of the page.

Step 5. Select Invite a friend

This option is at the top of the page.

Step 6. Tap Messages

This option is in the middle of the pop-up window.

You can also choose other options like Facebook Where Twitter though none of them allow you to send a message directly to a friend or a group of friends.

Step 7. Select the name of a contact

You can select as many names as you want.

These are the users who do not have WhatsApp in the Contacts app on your device, which appear here.
You can use the search bar at the top of the screen to find a specific contact.
