You can learn quite easily how to block unwanted mails also known as spam from the Microsoft Outlook site. Unfortunately, it is not possible to mark emails as spam or change spam settings in the Outlook mobile app.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Mark an email as spam

Step 1. Go to the Outlook site

If you are already logged in to Hotmail, you will access your inbox.

  • If you are not yet logged in, click To log in, enter your email address (or phone number) and password and click on Log in.

Step 2. Check the box to the left of the junk mail

This is the white box in the upper left corner of the preview of the email you want to mark as spam.

Step 3. Click Junk Mail

This option can be found in the row of options at the top of the inbox, just next to Archive. Selecting this option will move the email to the folder Spam.

Step 4. Click on the folder

Right-click (PC) or two-finger click (Mac) on the folder Spam on the left of the page.

Step 5. Click Remove All

You will find this option in the popup menu.

Now the folder would be emptied of junk mail, and the sender of the email you selected would be marked as junk sender.

Method 2 of 2: Change block settings

Step 4. Click Junk Email

This option is in the middle of the left panel of the page. This will bring up the menu options Spam.

  • If the options under Spam already appear, you can skip this step.

Step 5. Select Filters & Reports

This is the fourth and last option of the section Spam.

Step 6. Click on the circle to the left of Exclusive

This is under the heading Choose a spam filter at the top of the page. Select this option to only receive emails from your contacts and your authorized senders list, and announcements of services and alerts to which you have subscribed.

Step 7. Click Save

This option is at the top of the title Filters and Reports at the top of the page. From now on, you will see that the number of spam emails in your inbox will be considerably reduced.

Advice

From time to time, you can (and should) check the junk mail folder to make sure that some "desirable" mail has not been blocked

Warnings

  • If you select the option Exclusive for spam blocking, be sure to add important contacts to your address book, if you expect to receive emails from these people (or check the folder Spam).
