If for some reason you want to change the name that is displayed when you send an email with Gmail, please note that you can do it on the web version or with the mobile app. Google only allows you to change the name a maximum of 3 times every 90 days and you cannot change your email address.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Change the name from the website

Step 1. Log into Gmail
Go to this page in your web browser. If you are already logged in, this will open your Gmail inbox.
If you're not signed in to Gmail, enter your email address and password when prompted

Step 2. Click on the star wheel icon

This icon is located at the top right of the Gmail inbox. Click on it to open a drop-down menu.

Step 3. Select Settings
The option Settings is in the drop-down menu and opens the settings page.

Step 4. Go to Accounts and Import
This tab is at the top of the page.

Step 5. Click edit information
This option can be found in the section Send emails as in the settings page. A contextual menu will open.

Step 6. Check the box next to the empty text field
This is the second box from the top.

Step 7. Type the name you want to use
In the empty text field, type the name you want to use.

Step 8. Click Save Changes
This option is at the bottom of the window and allows you to save the changes and then close the window.
Method 2 of 2: Change name on mobile

Step 1. Open Gmail
Tap the red "M" icon on a white background to open the Gmail app.
If you are not signed in to Gmail, first enter your email address followed by your password

Step 2. Press ☰
This button is located at the top left of the screen and opens a menu.

Step 3. Scroll down to the Settings option
The option Settings is at the bottom of the context menu.

Step 4. Select your account
Tap the email address of the account whose name you want to change.

Step 5. Tap Manage Accounts
Manage accounts is at the top of the menu.
- If you are using an Android device, tap My account.

Step 6. Select Personal Information and Privacy
You will find this option at the top of the page.
- For Android users, tap Personal informations at the top of the screen.

Step 7. Tap your name
Your name is in the field name at the top of the page.

Step 8. Enter your Google account password
At the command prompt, type the password for your email address and then press FOLLOWING.

Step 9. Tap the edit icon

It's the pencil icon to the right of your name. Tap on it to open a pop-up menu.

Step 10. Enter your new name
In text fields First name and name, type the name you want to use.

Step 11. Tap Done
The button Ended is at the bottom of the pop-up window.

Step 12. Select CONFIRM at the command prompt
Your changes will be saved and a warning will be displayed informing you that you only have 2 possible changes left in the next 90 days.
Advice
- If a first and last name is required to create a Google Account, it is not necessary to use a last name to change the name on Gmail.
- The new name you entered may not be visible until after 24 hours.
- Make sure your name is appropriate. Never use insults or vulgar language.
