Large, lively eyes can give you a youthful, fresh and glowing complexion. If yours aren't naturally as big as you'd like, don't despair! You can use all kinds of tricks to make them look taller. Try applying makeup appropriately or making simple lifestyle changes.

Method 1 of 3: Use makeup

Step 1. Apply eyeliner

Do not go all the way around each eye, as this will make your eyes appear smaller because of the line that will isolate them (this also means that you should avoid “smoky eyes” makeup). This doesn't have to be a big deal, as small eyes can seem mysterious and alluring too, but it's the opposite of what you're looking for here.

  • Apply eyeliner to the outer three-quarters of each eyelid. Do not apply makeup to the inner corners of your eyes.
  • When applying makeup to your lower eyelid, apply the eyeliner just below the roots of your lashes, not above.
  • You can also apply white or other light colored eyeliner to the lining of your lower eyelids. It will make your eyes look much bigger. However, be careful not to overdo the white, because if you overdo it, the effect will not be natural.

Step 2. Make cat eyes

Extend the eyeliner line beyond the outer corner of each eye. Lift it up slightly so that it looks like a very long eyelash. This technique will make your eyes appear larger, but it can be difficult to master. If the two features are not symmetrical, your eyes may look out of place. At first, practice in front of an ice cream or ask a friend for help.

  • Stick a small piece of masking tape where you want the line to end to avoid extending it too much. Remove the ribbon when you are finished.
  • You can also stop below the outer end of each eyebrow.
  • Keep practicing and don't give up. It will take time to master the method, but if you persevere, you will succeed.

Step 3. Illuminate the inner corners

Apply eye shadow or white eyeliner to the inner corner of each eye. It will brighten up your eyes and make them look bigger. Choose a fairly soft tone of white. If it is too bright and aggressive, it will produce a theatrical effect. You can also apply white eyeliner to the lining of your lower eyelid, which is the area between the white of your eye and the roots of your lower lashes.

Step 4. Apply eye shadow

Use it to bring depth to your eyelids. Choose a neutral matte tone or a shade slightly darker than the rest of your makeup. Apply the product in the crease at the top of each eyelid with your fingers or a brush. This will create the illusion that your eyes have more depth.

Method 2 of 3: Act on your eyelashes and eyebrows

Step 1. Maintain your eyebrows

Just as a frame affects the appearance of a painting, your eyebrows affect the appearance of your face, including your eyes. Simply pulling out the protruding hairs can make your eyes stand out more. However, don't make the mistake of thinking that the thinner your brows, the bigger your eyes will look.

  • Give your eyebrows a well-defined curve to open up the area around your eyes. To do this, pluck the hairs above the inner end of each eyebrow to give it a more distinct shape.
  • The thick eyebrows look great on all face types and give a youthful, fresh look.

Step 2. Lengthen your eyelashes

There are several ways you can go about making them look longer.

  • Curl your upper lashes using an eyelash curler.
  • Apply mascara to the upper and lower lashes.
  • Put on false eyelashes.

Step 3. Apply complexion illuminator

Apply it on your brow bone. It will attract light to your eyes so that they appear larger. Use powder or liquid. Apply the product to your arches, just below your eyebrows.

Method 3 of 3: Treat eye problems

Make Eyes Look Bigger Step 8

Step 1. Reduce swelling

If the skin around your eyes is swollen, they may look smaller. Try taking the following steps to reduce these swelling.

  • Get enough sleep.
  • Wash your face with cold water.
  • Put wet, cold tea bags over your closed eyes. The tannin present in tea has an astringent action which helps tighten the skin.
  • Reduce your salt intake. Excess sodium causes water retention, which can cause the eyelids to swell.
  • Exercise to stimulate blood circulation and reduce fluid retention.

Step 2. Treat dark circles

It won't necessarily make your eyes look bigger, but even the biggest and most beautiful eyes can be marred by dark circles!

  • Stay healthy. Get enough sleep, eat a healthy, balanced diet, and don't eat too much salt.
  • Some people have very thin skin under their eyes, which can make them more likely to have dark circles. Apply red or orange primer under your concealer to hide blue or purple notes.

Step 3. Use cold spoons

Before going to bed, put two spoons in the freezer. The next day, when you get up, put the cold items on both of your eyes for about a minute. This can tighten the skin all around so that you look more awake. The cold will also reduce dark circles.

  • If you search online, you will find a lot of makeup tutorials with very specific visual examples showing different ways you can make your look bigger.
  • Round contact lenses, accessories sold in some Asian countries, make the irises appear larger. This changes the proportions of different parts of the eyes so that the eyes appear larger. You will find many sales sites that deliver them internationally. However, be aware that it is not recommended to wear contact lenses without a prescription.
  • If you don't have an eyelash curler, try using spoons. Run hot water on their surface then run them on the underside of your lashes by pressing gently. When you get the curve you want, hold the spoons against the tips to hold them in place. Apply mascara and dry it with a blow dryer set on a low temperature to fix the curve.

  • Don't just widen your eyes, because you'll always look amazed.
  • If your eyes are wide, be careful that your nostrils don't dilate.
