How to tint your eyebrows with coffee: 11 steps (with pictures)

Dyeing your eyebrows a darker shade is an easy way to define them better. But if you don't like the idea of using harmful chemicals or have had allergic reactions to eyebrow tint in the past, you might be better off going natural. Coffee grounds help color the eyebrows and make them look both natural and more defined. You just need to mix the marc with other natural ingredients and leave the preparation for half an hour: you will have dreamy eyebrows in no time!

  • 2 tablespoons (20 g) of coffee grounds
  • 1 teaspoon (3 g) cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp (25 g) coconut oil
  • Of honey

Part 1 of 3: prepare the tincture

Step 1. Mix the coffee grounds and cocoa powder

Pour 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds and 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder in a small bowl. Mix the two ingredients well to obtain a homogeneous preparation.

  • You will need to use caffeinated coffee grounds. This will allow you to achieve a richer color, while thickening sparse or weak eyebrows.
  • Cocoa powder helps lighten the tincture. For a lighter color, use more cocoa powder. If you are looking for a darker result, add less.

Step 2. Add the coconut oil

Once you have mixed the coffee grounds and cocoa powder, add 2 tbsp (25g) of coconut oil. Mix the ingredients well to obtain a liquid preparation.

If you don't have coconut oil, use another oil, such as olive or jojoba oil

Step 3. Add honey

The coconut oil will help create a liquid, smooth pigment with which to tint your brows, but it will take the preparation to stick to the bristles. Stir a small amount of honey into the mixture, so that the coffee preparation sticks to your eyebrows.

  • When the dye is ready, it should have the consistency of a paste.
  • The amount of honey to add is not fixed. Start with a few drops and touch the preparation to see if it is sticky. If it's dripping from your fingers, add more honey.

Step 4. Let the preparation sit for several minutes

Once the coffee preparation is ready, let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes. This will allow the ingredients to mix better with each other.

Part 2 of 3: prepping your eyebrows

Step 1. Wash your face

To make sure that no makeup, dirt, or other residue is left on your skin and on your brow hairs, it's important to wash your face. Unwanted residue could prevent the dye from working properly. Use your usual facial cleanser and water and cleanse your eyebrow area very carefully. Dry your face by dabbing it with a clean towel.

  • If your skin is very dry and has patches, exfoliate your eyebrow area with a face scrub.
  • Avoid the delicate skin around the eyes. Most cleansers will sting this part of the face and scrubs will irritate it.

Step 2. Brush your eyebrows in place

Before applying the coffee stain, you will need to make sure that your eyebrows are the desired shape. With a clean bottle brush or eyebrow brush, carefully style the bristles in place, following the natural shape of the eyebrows.

If you're not happy with the shape of your eyebrows, have them professionally plucked, whether with wax, thread or tweezers

Step 3. Remove excess hairs

After brushing your eyebrows in place, see if any hairs are sticking out. Remove them with clean tweezers, so you don't apply the dye where you don't want it.

You will need to do this even if you have just plucked your eyebrows. Take a look in the mirror and brush off unwanted hair

Part 3 of 3: dye your eyebrows

Step 1. Spread the preparation on your eyebrows

Once your eyebrows are combed into place, dip an angled brush or eyeliner brush into the preparation. Spread it over your eyebrows, in the desired shape. Apply a second coat to make sure the area is completely covered.

  • Do not apply the preparation outside your brow lines or you may stain your skin.
  • If you are concerned about the accuracy of the application, trace the contours of your eyebrows in pencil, so you know where to place the stain.

Step 2. Clean up any drips

After the dye is applied, immerse a cotton swab in water. Run it over any runs or blemishes to remove the coffee mixture from your skin.

Alternatively, you can fold a paper towel into a tight square or triangle and soak it in water. It will be more difficult for you to be precise as you wipe off the drips, but it will do if you have nothing else

Step 3. Let the mixture sit on your eyebrows

Once the preparation is spread over your eyebrows, leave it on for about 20 minutes. The longer the dye will sit, the darker your eyebrows will be. Adjust the exposure time accordingly.

  • If this is your first time dyeing your eyebrows, play it safe and stick to 20 minutes.
  • It will be better to dye your eyebrows too light rather than too dark. You can always dye them a second time, but you will not be able to lighten them once they are dyed.

Step 4. Remove the coffee mixture

After the dye has settled on your eyebrows for about 20 minutes, wet a second cotton swab. Run it over your eyebrows to remove the preparation, making sure to remove any residue.

  • Otherwise, you can wipe your eyebrows with a washcloth. Be aware, however, that you risk staining the washcloth.
  • If the resulting color is not dark enough, repeat the process.
