Learn how to hide or remove comments in a document under review using Microsoft Word. Hide Comments removes the comment bar from the right side of the Word document. Deleting comments removes them permanently from the document.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Delete comments

Step 1. Open your Microsoft Word document

Double click on the Microsoft Word document you want to use. Your document will then open in Microsoft Word.

Step 2. Make sure the comments are showing

If you don't see the comments bar to the right of your Word document, follow these steps:

  • click on the tab Revision;
  • click on the drop-down box Show brands;
  • select the option Comments.

Step 3. Find one of the comments you want to delete

Navigate through your document until you find the comment you want to remove from the document.

Step 4. Right click on the comment

A drop-down menu will then appear.

On Mac, hold down the Control key while clicking on the comment you want to delete

Step 5. Click Remove Comment

This option is in the drop-down menu. The comment is then immediately deleted.

Step 6. Delete all comments at once

To remove all comments from your Word document at once, follow the three steps outlined below.

  • Click on the tab Revision.
  • Then click on the small arrow next to To delete in the Comments section of the toolbar.
  • Finally click on Remove all comments in the document from the drop-down menu.

Step 1. Open your Word document and click on the Review tab

It is located in the blue area at the top of your Word document. A toolbar will then appear at the top of your window.

To open the document, double-click on it

If you see a yellow band appear at the top of the document, click on Allow changes.

Step 2. Click Show Marks

It is a drop-down box that can be found in the Monitoring section of the toolbar. A menu will then appear.

  • On Mac, you must instead click on the drop-down box Review options.

Step 3. Uncheck the Comments option

When you click on the option ✓ Comments in the menu, the check mark disappears and the comments sidebar is hidden.

Advice

  • You can click on To resolve on a comment to indicate that the comment has been processed, without deleting it. This can be useful, especially when you are working on a shared document where your other collaborators need to keep track of the revisions made to the document.
