Since the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook has made changes regarding the type of information you can find about its users. While it's no longer possible to use third-party search tools like StalkScan or the built-in search graph to find someone's comments, you can still find other people's comments on your own content. It's pretty easy to find a friend's comments on your own Facebook posts, but also in a long thread to find a specific person's comments.

Step 1. Log in to Facebook on a web browser

Step 2. Go to the post that contains the comment

If you don't see your friend's name and comment below the post, they probably ended up under other comments. Comments may also be filtered to show only the most recent or most popular.

  • The number of comments appears under the post.
  • The number of responses to a comment appears next to the comment in question. Replies to comments are presented as a discussion thread, which means they will appear below the comment rather than the original post.

Step 3. Click Show x comments above the first comment

The "x" corresponds to the number of hidden comments (or the word "Previous" if there are many comments). Click this link to view additional comments.

  • If you see "most relevant" above the comments list, click it and select All comments.
  • If you continue to see “Show previous comments” at the top, that means you will have to click it again to view more comments. Keep clicking until all comments are displayed.
  • To view all responses under a comment, click x responses below. For example, if there are 2 responses, you will see a link that indicates 2 responses.

    • On Safari for iPhone and iPad: slide your finger lightly down to display the options bar at the bottom, then tap the share icon (a square with an arrow pointing up). Drag the row of icons to the left and press Search on the page.
