Updates to Google Chrome allow you to take advantage of new features and enjoy a better browsing experience. Updates usually install themselves, but you can manually download an update to a mobile device from the app store or to a computer by going to the "About Google Chrome" page.
Method 1 of 3: Update Google Chrome on a desktop computer (Windows or Mac)
Step 1. Open Google Chrome
This is the app in the shape of a green, red, yellow and blue circle.
Step 2. Click ⋮
This icon is located at the top right of the Chrome window and opens a drop-down menu.
- If an update is available, this icon will turn green, yellow or red.
- On older versions of Chrome, you will instead have the icon ☰.
Step 3. Select Help
This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu. Click on it to open a pop-up window.
- If you see an option Update Google Chrome at the top of this menu, click on it.
Step 4. Click About Google Chrome
The option About Google Chrome is at the top of the pop-up window.
Step 5. Wait for Google Chrome to update
The update process should only take a few minutes at most.
If you see a message that says "Google Chrome is up to date", it means there is no update available for your browser yet
Step 6. Restart Google Chrome
Click on the button To restart that appears at the end of the update or simply close and relaunch Chrome. Your browser is now up to date.
- You can know the status of Google Chrome by opening the page About Google Chrome and look for the message "Google Chrome is up to date" on the left.
Method 2 of 3: Update Google Chrome on iPhone
Step 1. Open the iPhone App Store
This is the light blue application with a white "A" formed by writing tools. You will find it on the home screen.
Step 2. Tap Update
This option is located at the bottom right of the screen.
Step 3. Select Update
In the pending updates section at the top of the page, you should see the Chrome icon with the button Update next to.
If you don't see Chrome in the pending updates section, it means Chrome is up to date
Step 4. Enter your Apple ID password
The Google Chrome update will begin.
If your Apple ID password is not requested, Google Chrome will update immediately
Method 3 of 3: Update Google Chrome on Android
Step 1. Open the Google Play Store
This is the white application with a multicolored triangle on it.
Step 2. Press ☰
This button is located at the top left of the screen.
Step 3. Select My games & apps
This option can be found in the context menu on the left of the screen.
Step 4. Tap the Chrome icon
The Google Chrome icon looks like a green, yellow, blue, and red circle, and should be in the Update. Tap it to start the browser update.
- If you don't see Chrome in the Updates menu My games and apps, that means Chrome is up to date.
