Google Chrome is a very well-known browser used by Internet users around the world. One of the biggest advantages of Chrome is that its users can customize the browser to suit their every need. You can customize almost every aspect of the browser, right down to the download settings. Download settings are used to tell the browser how to handle a file to download. You can choose to redirect a download or change the folder where it will be saved. If you want to change Chrome's download settings to match your expectations, you can do that in a matter of minutes.
Part 1 of 2: Access the download settings
Step 1. Start Google Chrome
Before you can change the download settings, you will need to open your web browser. To do this, you need to click on its icon, either on your desktop or in the menu To start up.
The icon is a red, green, and yellow circle with a blue circle inside
Step 2. Open the settings menu
Once the browser is open, click on the symbol with 3 lines in the top right corner. A drop-down menu will appear. From this menu, look for the line Settings, then click on it.
Step 3. Click Advanced Settings
When you click on Settings, a new tab will open, displaying all of your browser settings in a window. If you go down there will be a blue link named Show advanced settings. Click on this link.
Step 4. Click Downloads from the menu
Clicking on advanced settings, a long list of parameters will be displayed. When the list is displayed, scroll down until you see an entry called Downloads.
- There are two settings you can change in the section Downloads.
Part 2 of 2: change download settings
Step 1. Decide if you want a default download folder
The first parameter corresponds to the folder where your downloads will be saved. Enable this option if you want all your downloaded files to be saved in one folder by default. The name of the default folder will appear in the white box next to the option.
- If you want to change the default folder, click on the gray box To modify next to the option. In the window that appears, browse your folders until you find the one you want to use, then click on OK to set it as the default folder.
- You may want to change the folder where your downloads are saved if you are sharing your computer with someone else.
Step 2. Decide if you want to choose where each downloaded file will be saved
The next setting below Download is a checkbox. You can click the box to check it if you want to choose the individual location of each download, instead of having them all saved in the same folder.
This option is very useful if your downloaded files are sorted by type
Step 3. Exit the downloads setup menu
When you are done configuring your options, simply close the menu. There is no additional step to register them. Once you change the settings, they will be applied automatically.
