It is possible to find the altitude of a place in Google Maps, with an Android phone or tablet. Even if some elevation data is not available in some areas, you can use the terrain map to get an estimate in mountainous areas.
Steps

Step 1. Open Google Maps
It is the icon that represents a map. It is usually found on the home screen, in the applications directory.

Step 2. Open the Terrain menu
It is located at the top right of the map window. It is represented by a round icon containing two superimposed squares.

Step 3. Choose Relief
Among the display choices available to you, click Relief. The map will then display the hills, valleys and passes.

Step 4. Zoom into the map
By zooming in, you will be able to see the contour lines displayed. These are the lines in light gray which surround the zones of different altitudes.
- To zoom, place two joined fingers on the map, and then spread them apart.
- To zoom out, bring your two fingers together.
