You can learn how to tag other Instagram users to make your posts more social. You can identify them by their usernames (preceded by the @ sign) or use hashtags (keywords preceded by the # sign) so that other users of the platform can find your posts.

Step 11. Click Finish
This is when your changes will be saved. The tag now appears on the photo.
The people you've tagged will receive a notification to let them know
Method 3 of 5: Tag someone in the comments

Step 1. Go to the post in question
You can quickly tell a friend about an interesting post by tagging them (that is, mentioning their name) in the comments. This sends him a notification to go see the post.
- His username begins with an @ and follows the format “@ username”.
- Your friend will not see the tag if the post is private (unless they are also subscribed to this account).

Step 2. Click the comments icon
It's the bubble under the photo or video in question.

Step 3. Tap on the keyboard space bar
Instagram used to let you type your friend's name in comments to tag them, but now that just sends a private message. You must start the comment with something other than its username, for example a space or another word.

Step 4. Type @ his_username
If you can't remember it exactly, start typing it until it shows up in the search results. You can click on it once it appears.

Step 5. Click Submit
The icon looks like a small paper airplane at the bottom right of the screen. This will post a comment and your friend you tagged will receive a notification.
Method 4 of 5: Add hashtags

Step 1. Learn how it works
A hashtag is a keyword that begins with "#" (for example "#kittens") that links the photo or video to more general topics. Adding hashtags in the caption of photos and videos helps make them more accessible to other users who are looking for common themes.
- For example, if you type #kittens in the photo caption, people who search for “kittens” on Instagram will see it, along with any other photos that use that hashtag.
- Username tags (i.e. with an @ at the beginning) identify a person or company that appears in the photo. It's a different thing from hashtags.

Step 2. Open Instagram
You will recognize the app by the pink camera lens icon.

Step 3. Edit the caption of the photo
You can add hashtags to new photos or pre-existing photos by typing them in the caption. Here's how to get there.
- If you've already posted the video or photo, go to the post and click ⁝ (on Android) or… (on iPhone) in the right corner, then choose Edit.
- When posting a new photo or video, click the + in the center at the bottom of the screen, then choose the photo or video that interests you. If you want, add effects, then tap Next at the bottom right of the screen.

Step 4. Type the hashtags in the caption
Just type the hashtag symbol (#) before the keyword associated with the photo. It will then appear below or you can also mix it into a sentence. Here are several ideas for incorporating hashtags into your captions.
-
The subject of the photo:
you can post a photo of your cat basking in the sun by writing: "#Matou the # kitten taking a #sun bath in the #garden".
- The place: Some of the most popular searches on Instagram involve specific locations. Try for example: "#Monlit", "photo of my #vacances in #Phuket # Thailand #Asia" or "nothing better than my favorite # cafelatte at #Starbucks #Paris".
- Technical photos: put hashtags on the applications, filters and styles used to create the photo, for example: "# iPhone3", "#hipstamatic", "#noiretblanc", "#nofilter" to appear in amateur search results of photography.
- Events: If you and your friends share photos from the same event, you can jointly create a hashtag for all the photos. For example, if everyone uses the hashtag “# sarah30eanniversary”, it will be easier to find the linked images.
- Identity: Be easier to find in search results by describing specific traits, for example "#rouquin", "#latinas", "#lgbt", "# néen80", "#teambeyonce".
- Learn about the trends. Search online for the most popular hashtags on Instagram or try specialist sites like https://www.tagblender.com to find this kind of information.

Step 5. Click Share
If you are editing an already existing post, simply click on the cross at the top right of the screen. Other users can now find your photos and videos using hashtags.
- Tap the hashtag under the photo to see other photos posted with the same.
- If your profile is private, photos will only be visible to people who follow you.
Method 5 of 5: Search by hashtag

Step 1. Open Instagram
It's the icon that looks like a pink camera lens.

Step 2. Click the search icon
It looks like a magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen.
You can also tap the hashtag in the photo caption to find related content

Step 3. Click on the search box
It's at the top of the screen.

Step 4. Click Tags
It is located under the search box.

Step 5. Start typing the hashtag or keyword
As you type, Instagram should show you matching hashtags.
- For example, if you type "kitten", you might also see suggestions like "#chatonsurinstagram", "#kittens", "#chatondujour", and so on.
- Each result also shows you the number of photos associated with it, for example if you see 229,200 under "#kittens oninstagram", it means that it has 229,200 photos associated with that hashtag.

Step 6. Click on them to see them
Advice
- If you put too many tags on your photos, comments will become too long and boring and other users will not read them. Try to limit yourself to two or three tags per photo.
- Hashtags can contain letters, numbers, and dashes. They do not contain spaces or special symbols.
- Hashtags (#) and at signs (@) are not the same thing. Hashtags are keywords. At-signs are used to communicate information. For example, if you type "@ kitten" instead of "# kitten", you will write to the user called "kitten" instead of mentioning the word in your comment. Pay attention !
