Access to your Instagram profile and photos can be restricted by changing your privacy settings. So people won't be able to see your account without first sending you a permission request. It won't change anything for your current fans. Like most edits on Instagram, you cannot make these changes from the desktop version of Instagram.
Step 1. Open Instagram
Tap the app icon. It looks like a multicolored camera. This will open your Instagram page, if you are already logged in.
- If you are not logged into your Instagram account, enter your username (or phone number) and password, then click To log in.
Step 2. Press
The button is located at the top right of the screen. If you have more than one Instagram account logged into the same device, then this will be the profile picture of the currently logged in account.
Step 3. Open settings
Tap the gear icon representing settings on iPhone, or tap ⋮, if you're on Android. The icon is located at the top right of the screen, regardless of your device.
Step 4. Make your account private
Scroll down the page until you reach the cursor Make private
. Drag it so that it turns blue. Your Instagram profile is now private and no one can access it without your permission.
Step 5. Confirm the change
Press OK when prompted. A popup will appear and ask you to confirm your choice. Press on OK to confirm changes to your profile. People who don't follow you yet and you haven't already approved will no longer be able to see your Instagram profile photos.
