Although speaking is an everyday act, one can be afraid of speaking in public. We often engage in a discussion with ourselves and we also share information with others. It is not so easy to speak confidently, clearly and to be understood. Think about what you want your classmates (or teachers) to understand through your speech. You will need to research the topic you want to talk about and organize the ideas you want to raise. Don't overdo it and don't pressure yourself. You can make mistakes, but that's okay for a start.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: prepare the theme
Step 1. Pick an interesting topic
Unless your teacher or one of the leaders in your class has imposed a particular theme on you, be sure to talk about a subject that interests you and inspires you with confidence. Most of the time, you will need to do some research. Ask other people you have identified so that they can share their experiences with you.
Step 2. Do a lot of research around the chosen topic
Write down all the details.
Part 2 of 3: Write what you are going to say
Step 1. Organize your writing into categories
See which detail is needed and which could be removed. You could use a different colored marker or pen.
Step 2. Make a draft
Write something general, then detail.
Step 3. Familiarize yourself with your theme
Write your speech as if it were an essay topic. Master the content of your writing correctly.
Step 4. Choose the visual aids (if necessary) you will use
Choose visual aids that will serve to enhance your presentation.
Part 3 of 3: practicing the speech
Step 1. Write or design index cards with notes
These will be the key points of your summary (which will allow you to avoid going off topic) as well as the details and statistics (because it would be difficult for you to memorize them).
Step 2. Repeat your speech aloud until you are used to it
It doesn't have to be the same as what you wrote, but try to stick with the content.
- Remember to speak slowly and clearly. Don't give your presentation in a hurry, otherwise your listeners won't understand much.
- Put a touch of emotion in your presentation. This will allow you to win your audience.
Step 3. Consider the objects in your room as an audience
You could try it with a teddy bear, a vase, or even the television.
Look in a mirror as you speak. Check to see if you have any bad habits like making faces, touching objects here and there, or wiggling your hair
Step 4. Rehearse your presentation in front of your family or friends
Do this once you've mastered it. They could support you, provide feedback, and help you improve. They will also help you learn to feel comfortable in front of an audience.
- Ask your family and friends for their thoughts on the tone, level of your voice, and the pace at which you speak.
- Make good eye contact.
Step 5. Get to school and make your presentation confidently
Advice
- Once you arrive at the scene, remember this: Everyone watching you is so nervous about the presentation that they don't pay too much attention to you!
- Have confidence in yourself! You are better informed on your topic than your classmates, so be proud of what you are going to present to them and indulge yourself.
- Try to focus on your audience, not the ground or the bench in front of you. If you have difficulty securing them, look just above their head or stare at an object that is next to a person, such as a box placed on a shelf near the person.
- Don't look at your feet! Looking at your feet shows insecurity and annoys people. Your feet shouldn't be that interesting.
- If you are not speaking loudly or confidently (or if you are terrified), ask your teacher if you can go first or second. Immediately ask to switch "as soon as possible" so that you can do whatever you have to do to keep your fear from letting go (note that this works if you remain calm and manage your breathing normally).
- Always take care to speak in a loud, clear voice.
- Practice standing still, not pacing back and forth, fidgeting, and being nervous.
- If you feel nervous while speaking, focus your attention on something other than people. Attach the nailed clock to the wall and focus on it. Glance around you from time to time otherwise you will look like a talking statue.
- Take pride in being able to present. Maybe some haven't even practiced!
