Learn how to change the size of icons and text on your Windows computer screen by increasing or decreasing its resolution.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: Change screen resolution on Windows 10

Step 1. Right click on the desktop
A drop-down menu will appear.

Step 2. Click Display Settings
This option is at the bottom of the menu.

Step 3. Scroll down
Click Advanced display settings. This link is at the bottom of the page.

Step 4. Click on the bar under the Resolution heading
A drop-down menu with different values (eg 800 x 600) will appear.

Step 5. Click on a value
The resolution best suited to your computer screen will be marked "Recommended" next to it.
The higher the resolution, the smaller the text and icons on the computer will be

Step 6. Click Apply
Your screen resolution will be changed.

Step 7. Click Keep these display settings
If you don't like your new display settings, click Restore or wait a few seconds for the computer to automatically restore default settings.
Method 2 of 5: Change screen resolution on Windows 7 and 8

Step 1. Right click on the desktop
A drop-down menu will appear.

Step 2. Click Screen Resolution
This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Step 3. Click on the resolution bar
It is located under the heading Resolution and will display a drop-down menu with different values like 1920 x 1080.
On Windows 7, you will have a vertical slider that you can drag up or down to increase or decrease the resolution

Step 4. Click on a value
The resolution best suited to your computer screen will be marked "Recommended" next to it.

Step 5. Click OK
This option is at the bottom of the window. You will be asked to confirm your choice.

Step 6. Click Yes when prompted
Your changes will be saved.
- If you don't like your new display settings, click Restore or wait a few seconds for the computer to restore default settings.
Method 3 of 5: Change the screen resolution on Windows Vista

Step 1. Right click on the desktop
A drop-down menu will appear.

Step 2. Click Customize
This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
- On some versions of Vista, this option may be titled Properties.

Step 3. Click Display Settings
This link is at the bottom of the window Personalize.

Step 4. Click and drag the resolution slider
It is located at the bottom of the display settings window. Drag the slider to the left to decrease your screen resolution and to the right to increase it.
Increasing the resolution will make the elements smaller, and decreasing it will make them larger. If you have trouble seeing what is displayed on your computer, lower your screen resolution. If you want the sharpest image possible, select the recommended resolution for your display

Step 5. Click OK
This option is at the bottom of the window. You will be asked to confirm your choice.

Step 6. Click Yes when prompted
Your changes will be saved.
Method 4 of 5: Change the screen resolution on Windows XP

Step 1. Right click on the desktop
A drop-down menu will appear.

Step 2. Click Properties
This option is at the bottom of the menu and opens the window. Display properties.

Step 3. Click and drag the resolution slider
It sits at the bottom of the window Display settings. Drag it to the left to decrease your screen resolution and to the right to increase it.

Step 4. Click Apply

Your new screen resolution will be saved.
Method 5 of 5: Change screen resolution on Windows ME

Step 1. Right click on the screen
A drop-down menu should appear.

Step 2. Select View
Choose an icon size.
