Extension .img is made for files Picture. This file is an exact image of a set of files, you can mount it as a drive or open it with an application such as Winzip.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Mount the file as a drive in Windows

Step 1. Press ⊞ Win + E
This will open the file explorer.

Step 2. Select the file
Open the folder that contains the file .img.

Step 3. Open the file
Double click on the file .img, Windows will now mount it as a drive and display its contents.
- To copy a file from the file .img to another folder, drag it to the desired location.
- When you are done, unmount the file .img. To do this, scroll down the left column of the file explorer, right click on the player .img that you mounted, then click Eject.
Method 2 of 4: Extract the file with WinZip on Windows

Step 1. Launch WinZip on your PC
It is usually found in the part All applications menu To start up.
If you don't have WinZip on your computer, you can download it from WinZip for Windows

Step 2. Click Open
This is the open blue folder in the upper left corner of WinZip.

Step 3. Select the file type
From the drop-down menu that appears, select Disk images (*.img, *.iso, *.vhd, *.vmdk). This is in the lower right corner of the window.

Step 4. Select the file
Navigate to the folder that contains the file .img.

Step 5. Click Open
A confirmation message will then appear.

Step 6. Extract the file
Click Yes, extract files to (folder name). This will extract the files to the specified folder (which will be created in the folder where the file is located .img).

Step 7. Press ⊞ Win + E
This will open the file explorer.

Step 8. Navigate to the.img file
You will then see that a new folder (with the name of the file .img) was created in the folder containing the file .img.

Step 9. Double-click on the new folder
The contents of the file .img will then be displayed. You can now click on files to open them with their default programs.
Method 3 of 4: Mount the file as a drive in macOS

Step 1. Open Finder

The button is on the Dock, which is usually at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2. Locate the file
Navigate to the folder containing the file .img.

Step 3. Mount the file
Double click on the file .img, this will mount it as a drive (it will appear on your desktop). This will also open a window listing all the files contained in the file. .img.
- To copy a file from the file .img to another folder, drag it to the desired location.
- When you are done, unmount the file .img. To do this, go to the desktop then drag the new drive (the file .img) to the icon Eject at the bottom of the screen (where the recycle bin is usually located).
Method 4 of 4: Alternative method for Windows 7 with WinRAR
Step 1. Open WinRAR
Otherwise, you can open a file with WinRAR.
Step 2. Locate the IMG file
Step 3. Right click on the IMG file
Then select Show file contents.
- You can now open the files in the IMG file.
- To move a file that is in the IMG file to another folder on your computer, click on it with the left mouse button, hold it down and move the mouse to drag the file into the new folder.
