To easily transfer your bookmarks (also known as bookmarks), you can make a copy of them by exporting an HTML file that contains them from your browser. This is possible on any desktop browser, be it Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer or Safari. Once the bookmarks are exported, you can import them into another browser.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: Copy bookmarks to Google Chrome

Step 1. Open Google Chrome

It is the red, yellow, green and blue icon in the shape of a sphere.

Step 2. Click ⋮
This button is located at the top right of the Chrome window. Click on it to open a drop-down menu.

Step 3. Select Favorites
The option Favorites is in the middle of the drop-down menu and opens a context menu.

Step 4. Go to Favorites Manager
This option is at the top of the context menu. Click on it to open the bookmarks page in a new tab.

Step 5. Click ⋮
It's the button on the far right of the blue bar at the top of the page. You will see a menu appear.
- Be careful not to confuse with the icon ⋮ that you selected previously to open the drop-down menu.

Step 6. Select Export Favorites
Export favorites is in the menu and opens File Explorer (on a Windows computer) or Finder (on a Mac).

Step 7. Enter a name
Type the name you want to give to your favorites file.
You can also just keep the default favorites file

Step 8. Choose a save location
Click on a folder (for example the Office) in the left side pane of the window. This is where the favorites file will be saved.

Step 9. Click Save
This option is located at the bottom right of the window. Click on it to save your favorites file to your computer.

Step 10. Import the favorites into another browser
If you want to add your copied bookmarks to another browser (or the same browser on another computer), follow the instructions for the browser you want to import them into.
- On Google Chrome: click on ⋮, select Favorites, click on Import favorites and settings, choose Add the HTML file to favorites in the drop-down menu, click Choose file then double click on the favorites file.
- On Firefox: click on ☰, select Library, choose Show all bookmarks at the bottom, expand the box Import and backup, click on Import bookmarks in HTML format then double click on your favorites file.
- On Microsoft Edge: click ⋯, select Settings, click on Import from another browser then on Import from file before double-clicking on the HTML file.
- On Internet Explorer: click on the star-shaped favorites icon, click on
to the right of the option Add to favorites, select Import and export, Check the box From file, click on ' Following, Check the box Favorites, click on Following, select Browse, find then double click on the favorites file , click on Following then select Import.
- On Safari: click on File, select Import from, choose HTML file bookmark then double click on the file you want to use.
Method 2 of 5: Copy bookmarks to Firefox

Step 1. Open Firefox
Click on the orange fox icon around a blue globe to open the Firefox application.

Step 2. Click ☰
This button is located at the top right of the window. Click on it to open a drop-down menu.

Step 3. Select Library
The option Library is in the middle of the menu.

Step 4. Click Bookmarks
Bookmarks is at the top of the menu. Click on it to open a new drop-down menu.

Step 5. Choose Show All Bookmarks
This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu and opens the bookmarks window.

Step 6. Select Import and Backup
This drop-down box is identified by the star and arrow icon at the top of the Bookmarks Library window. Click on it to open a drop-down menu.

Step 7. Click Export Bookmarks as HTML
Export bookmarks in HTML format is at the bottom of the drop-down menu. This option opens a window.

Step 8. Enter a name
Type the name you want to give your bookmarks file.

Step 9. Choose a save location
In the left side pane of the window, click a folder to save the bookmarks file there.

Step 10. Click Save
This option is located at the bottom right of the window. Click on it to download the bookmarks file to your computer.

Step 11. Import the bookmarks into another browser
If you want to add your bookmarks in a different browser (or in the same browser, but on a different computer), follow the instructions for the browser of your choice.
- To import bookmarks into Google Chrome: click on ⋮, select Favorites, click on Import favorites and settings, choose Add the HTML file to favorites in the drop-down menu, click Choose file then double click on the favorites file.
- To import bookmarks into Firefox: click ☰, select Library, choose Show all bookmarks at the bottom, expand the box Import and backup, click on Import bookmarks in HTML format then double click on your favorites file.
- To import bookmarks into Microsoft Edge: click ⋯, select Settings, click on Import from another browser then on Import from file before double-clicking on the HTML file.
- To import bookmarks into Internet Explorer: click on the star-shaped bookmarks icon, click on
to the right of the option Add to favorites, select Import and export, Check the box From file, click on ' Following, Check the box Favorites, click on Following, select Browse, find then double click on the favorites file , click on Following then select Import.
- To import bookmarks into Safari: click File, select Import from, choose HTML file bookmark then double click on the file you want to use.
Method 3 of 5: Copy bookmarks to Microsoft Edge

Step 1. Open Microsoft Edge
Click or double-click the Microsoft Edge app icon that looks like a dark blue "e".
In some cases, the application icon looks like a white “e” on a dark blue background

Step 2. Click ⋯
This button is located at the top right of the window and opens a context menu.

Step 3. Select Settings
This option is at the bottom of the menu.

Step 4. Choose Import from another browser
The option Import from another browser is under the heading Import favorites and other information in the context menu.

Step 5. Click Export to File
You will find this button at the bottom of the menu.

Step 6. Enter a name
In the field File name, type the name of your favorites file.

Step 7. Select a save location
In the side pane on the left of the window, click the folder where you want to save your favorites file.

Step 8. Click Save
Save is located at the bottom of the window and allows you to save the file and then download it to your computer.

Step 9. Import bookmarks from another browser
You have the possibility to add the favorites that you have copied to another browser (or to the same browser, but on another machine). The instructions below will show you what to do depending on your browser.
- If you are using Google Chrome: click on ⋮, select Favorites, click on Import favorites and settings, choose Add the HTML file to favorites in the drop-down menu, click Choose file then double click on the favorites file.
- If you are using Firefox: click on ☰, select Library, choose Show all bookmarks at the bottom, expand the box Import and backup, click on Import bookmarks in HTML format then double click on your favorites file.
- If you are using Microsoft Edge: click ⋯, select Settings, click on Import from another browser then on Import from file before double-clicking on the HTML file.
- If you are using Internet Explorer: click the star-shaped favorites icon, click
to the right of the option Add to favorites, select Import and export, Check the box From file, click on ' Following, Check the box Favorites, click on Following, select Browse, find then double click on the favorites file , click on Following then select Import.
- If you are using Safari: click File, select Import from, choose HTML file bookmark then double click on the file you want to use.
Method 4 of 5: Copy bookmarks to Internet Explorer

Step 1. Open Internet Explorer
The Internet Explorer icon looks like a light blue "e" wrapped in a yellow stripe.

Step 2. Click the favorites icon
It's the star icon at the top right of the window. Click on it to open a drop-down menu.

Step 3. Click

This button is to the right of the box Add to favorites and opens a menu.

Step 4. Select Import and Export
Import and export can be found in the drop-down menu.

Step 5. Check the Export to file option
The option Export to file is at the bottom of the pop-up window.

Step 6. Click Next
The button Following is located at the bottom right of the pop-up window.

Step 7. Check the Favorites box
Click Next after checking the box Favorites at the top of the window.

Step 8. Select favorite folders
Click once on the folder icon Favorites to make sure it is selected as the folder to export, then click Next.

Step 9. Choose a save location
Click on Browse then choose a folder from the left side pane of the pop-up window. It is in this folder that your favorite folders will be saved.

Step 10. Type a name
Enter the name you want to give to your favorites folder.

Step 11. Click Save
This option is located at the bottom right of the window.

Step 12. Select Export
The option Export is at the bottom of the pop-up window.

Step 13. Click Finish
To end is at the bottom of the window and closes the export window. The favorites file should now be on your computer.

Step 14. Import the favorites into another browser
If needed, you can add your bookmarks in another browser (or in the same browser on another machine) by following the instructions for the browser you want to import them into.
- Import bookmarks into Google Chrome: click on ⋮, select Favorites, click on Import favorites and settings, choose Add the HTML file to favorites in the drop-down menu, click Choose file then double click on the favorites file.
- Import favorites into Firefox: click on ☰, select Library, choose Show all bookmarks at the bottom, expand the box Import and backup, click on Import bookmarks in HTML format then double click on your favorites file.
- Import bookmarks into Microsoft Edge: click ⋯, select Settings, click on Import from another browser then on Import from file before double-clicking on the HTML file.
- Import bookmarks into Internet Explorer: click on the bookmarks icon, click on
to the right of the option Add to favorites, select Import and export, Check the box From file, click on ' Following, Check the box Favorites, click on Following, select Browse, find then double click on the favorites file , click on Following then select Import.
- Import bookmarks into Safari: click on File, select Import from, choose HTML file bookmark then double click on the file you want to use.
Method 5 of 5: Copy bookmarks on Safari
Step 1. Open Safari
Click or double-click the blue compass icon in your Mac's Dock.
Step 2. Click File
The option File is located at the top left of the screen and opens a drop-down menu.
Step 3. Select Export Bookmarks
You'll find this option at the bottom of the drop-down menu. Click on it to open a new window.
Step 4. Enter a name
In the field Save as, type the name you want to give to your bookmarks file.
Step 5. Click on a save location
In the drop-down field Or, click the name of the folder where you want to save your bookmarks file.
Step 6. Select Save
It's the blue button at the bottom of the window. Click on it to save your file to your computer in the folder you selected.
Step 7. Import the bookmarks into another browser
If for some reason you want to import your bookmarks in a different browser (or in the same browser on another computer), follow the instructions below depending on the browser you are using.
- For Google Chrome users: click on ⋮, select Favorites, click on Import favorites and settings, choose Add the HTML file to favorites in the drop-down menu, click Choose file then double click on the favorites file.
- For Firefox users: click ☰, select Library, choose Show all bookmarks at the bottom, expand the box Import and backup, click on Import bookmarks in HTML format then double click on your favorites file.
- For Microsoft Edge users: click ⋯, select Settings, click on Import from another browser then on Import from file before double-clicking on the HTML file.
- For Internet Explorer users: click on the favorites icon in the form of bookmarks, click on
to the right of the option Add to favorites, select Import and export, Check the box From file, click on ' Following, Check the box Favorites, click on Following, select Browse, find then double click on the favorites file , click on Following then select Import.
- For Safari users: click File, select Import from, choose HTML file bookmark then double click on the file you want to use.
Advice
- When saving your favorites file, remember to add the date as well as the browser name in the title, especially if you have multiple bookmarks from different browsers that you plan to import later.
- To more easily find your favorites or bookmarks later, export them to the folder Office rather in another folder which contains a lot of documents.
- You have the option of saving your bookmarks to a USB drive so that you can transfer them to another computer or to an online storage space like Google Drive, OneDrive or iCloud Drive to save and download them elsewhere.
