There are several reasons that can lead a person to want to change their IP address. This tutorial will explain how to change the IP address of a wired or wireless computer, not the IP address of an internet connection (to do this, you must contact your internet service provider). Read on to learn how to change your IP address on Windows or on a Mac.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Change an IP address in Windows

Step 1. Cut off your internet connection
Are you ready for the next step? Follow these steps to cut your internet connection.
- Press the keys Windows and R to open the Run tool.
- Then press Command and then Entrance.
- Finally, introduce ipconfig / release and press Entrance.

Step 2. Open the Control Panel
See you in Network and Internet connections, then in Network and sharing center and finally Change map settings.

Step 3. Right click on the internet connection you are using
It should be called Local Area Network and Internet or Wireless Network Connection. Check the properties. If prompted, enter an administrator name and password to continue.

Step 4. Find the General tab
Open it and click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4). Then press the button Properties.

Step 5. On the General tab, click Use the following IP address if it is not selected
Enter a series of 1s so that your new IP address becomes 111-111-111-111.

Step 6. Press the tabulator key on your keyboard
This will fill in the Subnet Mask with an automatically generated series of numbers. Double click on OK to return to the Local Network and Internet screen.
Step 7. A dialogue window may appear
This will inform you that your connection is currently active and that some settings will not take effect until the next connection. This is completely normal. Click on OK Image: Change Your IP Address Step 7.jpg

Step 8. Right click on your Local Network and Internet again and click Properties

Step 9. On the General tab, click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)
Then press the button Properties.

Step 10. Select the Obtain an IP address automatically check box
Close both windows again and connect to the internet. Your computer should have a new IP address.
Method 2 of 2: Change an IP address on macOS

Step 1. Open your Safari browser

Step 2. From the Safari drop-down menu, click Preferences

Step 3. Go to the Advanced tab

Step 4. Find the Proxies category and click Change settings
This action will open the network preferences.

Step 5. Select the Web proxy (HTTP) check box

Step 6. Imagine a suitable IP address that will serve as your web proxy server
Several solutions are available to you. But the most effective solution is probably to find a website that offers you free proxy servers.

Step 7. Introduce free web proxies into a search engine and go to a reputable website
This site should offer free web proxies, clearly indicating the following factors:
- the country;
- speed;
- the duration of the connection;
- the type.

Step 8. Find a suitable web proxy
Enter the proxy IP address in the Web proxy server field of your network preferences.

Step 9. Enter the port number
This should be displayed on the website offering the free web proxy, in addition to the IP address. Check that both are correct.

Step 10. Click OK and then Apply for the changes to take effect
Start browsing. You might be redirected to a web page for a few seconds before you can continue. Good fun !
Advice
Here is a handy website that allows you to view your IP address to see if the changes are effective:
Warnings
- Sometimes, if they are very lucky (or if you are unlucky and have the wrong IP address), they can even identify your region!
- Only for Windows 7. For other operating systems, such as Mac and Linux, try another website.
- Unfortunately, even if you change your IP address often, websites can still identify your country and (if lucky) your region.
- It won't work every time. That’s why you should go and check the suggested website in Tips.
