How to use a personalized image as a banner for your YouTube channel

You can set an image as a banner for your YouTube channel using the mobile app or by logging into your account on YouTube.com. Log in to your account, go to your channel menu, then select the image you want to use. The process is similar whether on mobile or desktop, however the YouTube.com interface provides a few additional features to help you with your selection. Use the banner as a personalized space for expression and to add flair to your channel.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On the YouTube mobile app

Step 1. Download and open the YouTube app

Search for YouTube in the App Store or Play Store and tap To install. Select To open at the end of the installation.

Step 2. Enter your email address and password

Then press Log in. If you don't have an account yet, you can tap Register now to create one.

Step 3. Tap the silhouette icon

This button is located to the right of the menu bar and displays a list of account features. You will see your username below the menu bar.

Step 4. Select your photo to go to your home page

Step 5. Press the star wheel icon

You'll find it to the right of your username. It will allow you to modify your channel.

Step 6. Tap the camera icon on your banner

Then select Choose from your photos. The button with the camera is on the right edge of the banner. The Choose from your photos option will redirect you to your photo library.

You will probably need to give YouTube permission to access your photos.
You will see another camera icon in the middle of the screen. Click on it to change your user photo.
You cannot launch the camera from the YouTube app when you select a banner. If you want to take a photo, you must do so before you edit the banner.

Step 7. Tap a photo to select it

Once you select it, you will be prompted to adjust the part of the photo you want to display on your channel.

You can press the back arrow at the top left to change your selection.
Banner photos on YouTube must be at least 2048 x 1152 pixels and cannot be larger than 4MB. You will be notified if the image is too small or too large.

Step 8. Adjust the area to display

Use the box that appears on the screen to guide your selection. The part of the photo that is inside will be used as a banner.

Step 9. Select Save

Your photo will be imported and your banner will change instantly.

Method 2 of 2: On YouTube.com

Step 1. Go to YouTube.com

Enter your account credentials and press Log in. If you don't have an account, you can create one by pressing Register now.

Step 2. Look for the settings menu at the top left

It looks like three horizontal bars (☰).

Step 3. Select My Channel

This button is under Home and will redirect you to your personal YouTube channel.

Step 4. Click Add Channel Banner

It's the blue button in the middle of your channel banner location. Click on it to open the image import interface.

If you already have a banner for your channel and want to edit it, click on the pencil-shaped button at the top right of the banner

Step 5. Drag a photo into the import interface

The photo will be imported and you will have a preview of how it will look on each platform.

You can also click Select an image on my computer to manually search for image files on your computer.
YouTube enforces a minimum image size of 2,048 x 1,152 pixels and a maximum file size of 4MB. You will be notified if the image is too small or too large.
You can press to cancel in the menu bar at the bottom if you want to choose another image.
The imported photos will be saved on your channel and accessible under the Your photos tab.

Step 6. Select images provided by YouTube from Gallery

The Gallery button is located in the import interface and offers various sample images that you can use for free.

Step 7. Click Adjust Size

This button is located at the bottom left of the import interface and allows you to adjust the size of the banner by clicking and dragging the selection field.

The Preview button on devices will redirect you to the main import screen

Step 8. Check the Auto Adjust (Optional) box

It is located to the right of the menu bar at the bottom and allows you to automatically adjust the color balance as well as the brightness of your image. You can uncheck it to undo the changes.

Step 9. Click Select

This is the blue button at the bottom left of the window. Click on it to save the image in Your photos and define a new banner for your channel.
