On Windows, it is possible to insert a heart-shaped symbol (♥) with a special alt = "Image" code on the numeric keypad. If your computer does not have a numeric keypad, you can use the character map. On macOS, you need to open the character viewer to find and insert the heart. This symbol was introduced in Unicode 1.1.0 in 1993, and is found on virtually all devices.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use the alt = "Image" codes (on Windows)

Step 1. Place your cursor in a text field
You can use this alt = "Image" code in most programs that allow typing. Place your cursor in a text field, whether it's your browser's navigation bar, the Facebook comment section, or a Word document.

Step 2. Activate the Lock key

of your numeric keypad must be enabled in order to use the alt = "Image" codes.
- If your computer has an integrated numeric keypad (numeric keys are associated with classic keys), you will need to press the Fn key to activate it. This kind of keyboard is more common on small laptops and netbooks that don't have room to accommodate a full keyboard.
- Not all laptops have a numeric keypad, especially the ThinkPad line. If this is the case for your machine, go to the character table section below.

Step 3. Hold down the Alt key
This allows you to enter the codes with the numeric keypad.

Press the 3 key on the numeric keypad while holding down alt = "Image". You cannot use the row of numbers above your keyboard. Only the 3 key of the numeric keypad to the right of the keyboard can obtain this result.

If you have a built-in numeric keypad, the key to press is L since the right side of the keyboard changes to a numeric keypad when the key Lock Num.

Step 5. Release the Alt key
Releasing the Alt key brings up the ♥ symbol. If you're using a program with a font that doesn't support the ♥ symbol, you'll see the □ character instead.
Method 2 of 3: Use the character viewer (on Mac)

Step 1. Click on the Apple menu
Click on the Apple menu in the upper left corner. There is no keyboard shortcut for typing a heart on Mac OS, but you can use the character viewer to insert one. The character viewer can be activated from the system preferences menu.
The Apple menu is always accessible, regardless of the open program

Step 2. Select System Preferences
Select System Preferences in the Apple menu to display different types of settings.

Step 3. Click Keyboard
Thus, you will display your input parameters.

Step 4. Check the box at the bottom of the window
This is the box Show keyboard, emoji, and symbol viewers in the menu bar. A new button will appear in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Step 5. Click the new button
Click the new button in the menu bar to display different options for different viewers.

Step 6. Select Show Emoji & Symbols
A new window with different symbols will appear.

Step 7. Click Emoji
Click on Emoji to display all available emoji characters and sorted into different categories.

Step 8. Click Symbols
Click on Symbols to display different hearts at the top of the list.

Step 9. Double click on the heart you want to insert
The heart will be inserted where your cursor is.
- There is another heart symbol in the section Pictograms. This is the symbol found in card games.
Method 3 of 3: Use character map (on Windows)

Step 1. Open the menu or start screen
You can click the button To start up in the lower left corner of the desktop, or press the ⊞ Win key.

Step 2. Enter “Character Map”
Enter "Character Map" in the menu or start screen to launch the corresponding program on your computer.
You can use the character map to insert a heart-shaped symbol if your machine does not have the numeric keypad required by the alt = "Image" codes

Step 3. Check the Advanced View box
Check the box Advanced display at the bottom of the window to display additional options in the character table.

Step 4. Select Unicode Row
Select Unicode row in the menu Group by. Another small window will appear next to the character map.

Step 5. Select Symbols & Dingbats
Select Symbols & Dingbats in the new window to display only the chosen symbols (such as the heart-shaped symbol) in the character table.

Step 6. Double-click on the heart in the grid
The heart will be added to the characters to be copied.

Step 7. Click the Copy button
The selected character (the heart in this case) will be copied to your notepad.

Step 8. Glue the heart wherever you need it
Place your cursor where you want to insert the heart and press Ctrl + V.
Advice
- If all else failed, you can just copy and paste the ♥ symbol.
- Many websites allow you to use the HTML & hearts; (without a space before the semicolon) to make a heart.
