In Adobe Illustrator, artboards are the parts of your document that will be printed. Documents that you create in Illustrator can have multiple artboards. You first define an artboard size when you create the document, but you can change it at any time. You can assign the countertop a new size manually or let the software define a size according to your creation.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Resize the artboard manually

Step 1. Open your document in Illustrator
You can change the size of the worktop once the file is open in the software.

Step 2. Click on the File menu
You will find the menu File in the upper left corner of your screen, on both PC and Mac.

Step 3. Select Document Format
This action will open a window that presents several options for configuring the document you are working on.

Step 4. Click the Edit Artboards button
This will display the different artboards that are in your document and the first one will be highlighted.

Step 5. Select the work plane
Use your mouse to select the artboard you want to resize.

Step 6. Press the ↵ Enter key Where ⏎ Return.
This will open the window Work plan options. This will display a series of settings for the selected artboard.

Step 7. Adjust the size of the worktop
Under the name of the artboard you will find the part of the window that allows you to change the size. Click on the menu Preset parameters to choose from different sizes or directly enter the size in the text fields Width and Height.
- You can also click and drag the wrists at the corners of the worktop to change its size. These cuffs only appear after clicking Modify artboards in the window Document format. Once the size is adjusted, press Esc to keep the change.
- If you have multiple countertops, the edges may line up with those of neighboring countertops due to magnetism when you pull the cuffs.

Step 8. Click OK to keep the change
Your work plan will then be resized.

Step 9. Resize your creation
If you increase the size of the artboard, your creation may no longer cover all of it. You can adjust the dimensions of the countertop to match your design.
-
Select all the objects on the work plane by pressing
Ctrl / ⌘ Cmd + A, then Ctrl / ⌘ Cmd + G to group them.
- Hold ⇧ Shift and drag the angle of your selection until you are satisfied with its size. Holding down the ⇧ Shift key ensures that you do not change the proportion of the object when you pull it.
Method 2 of 2: Resize an artboard automatically

Step 1. Open the document in Illustrator
You can resize the artboard to the same size as the creation on it using the menu Object.

Step 2. Click on the Object menu
If any part of your creation protrudes from the artboard, you can ask the software to automatically resize the artboard so that it no longer comes out.

Step 3. Select Artboards
This will display a few options in the submenu.

Step 4. Select Fit to Artwork Limits
This command resizes the artboard to the size of your creation.
Advice
- a Workplan is different from Work zone. The workspace is the space that contains all of your artboards. The size of this space is 227 x 227 and cannot be changed.
