Are you tired of your dinner parties or family moments being interrupted by annoying calls from a telemarketing company? Are you getting annoying calls or threats on the phone, and looking for a way to end it? While it is next to impossible to end all of these unwanted calls, they can be drastically reduced. Fortunately, with a little method and persistence, you will be able to put an end to this situation and have more peace of mind.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Block some incoming calls

Block People from Calling You on Your Home Phone Step 1

Step 1. Use a caller ID

You can identify the caller before picking up the phone, and hang up if it's an unwanted call, or leave the call on the answering machine.

Step 2. Block a number

Almost all phone companies have some means by which you can block calls from specific numbers. You can do this with some companies by entering a code and then adding the number that is to be blocked. Consult your telephone service provider to inquire about their procedure.

Step 3. Place a "trap"

If you have a trap, apply it to your phone. In this way, incoming calls will be tracked to their actual destinations (not the fictitious tracking information provided by call machines on the identity of the caller), and may be blocked in the future. Traps are currently offered by private companies as well as by several telephone service providers.

Step 4. Request to be placed on a company's do not call list

Although many people are familiar with the nationwide do not call list, private companies are also mandated to remove anyone from their call lists. Regarding the register of self-excluded subscribers, your request must be renewed every 5 years.

Step 5. Contact the service responsible for resolving all unwanted call problems from your telephone company

If your telephone company cannot protect you from unwanted calls, ask to be put in touch with that office or department the next time you come into contact with one of the agents. Most companies have such special groups which usually handle such calls.

Method 2 of 2: Reduce all incoming phone calls

Step 1. Register with the National Self-Excluded Subscriber Registry

This does not prevent companies (including collection agencies) with which you have recent business from calling. The same is true for non-profit organizations. However, if you are harassed by telemarketing companies, it will drastically reduce your calls. There are also public programs and you can join them online as well.

Step 2. Claim automatic rejection of anonymous calls from your telephone company

Most phone companies will now allow you to block any call that does not display the Caller ID number or that displays as a private call. This will mostly remove several numbers from telemarketing companies.

Step 3. Choose a given ringtone for all your contacts

Some phones have a feature that allows you to choose a unique ringtone for each specific incoming number. Choose a different ringtone than the one you normally use for those numbers, and when you hear it, pick it up and turn down the volume without thinking. This will prevent you from talking to them (you can also transfer the call to the answering machine).

Step 4. Get a phone with a "Mute" feature

Alternatively, buy a hearing-impaired phone that has a flashing light (and can be muted) to alert you to incoming calls.

Step 5. Remove your number from all public lists

Phone books are a little old fashioned, but phone number directories still exist online and companies are getting as many as they can. You can tell your telephone company that you no longer want your number to be publicly listed. Instead, it should be considered unpublished or private, and shouldn't even be available through a help desk.

Step 6. Go to cell phone only as a last resort

This is of course the last resort, but it can be very effective. Most cell phones can be easily configured to reject calls from certain numbers, and additional apps can be downloaded to divert all calls from numbers not in your directory to the answering machine. Better still, the government is banning all use of automatic calling machines (the devices used by the vast majority of telemarketing companies) to contact phone numbers.
