To play games or enjoy a larger display, you can cast your computer screen to your LG smart TV. You can watch videos or play music using the built-in SmartShare option or you can display your computer screen on your TV with Miracast (wireless) or an HDMI connection (wired).
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use SmartShare

Step 1. Find out about SmartShare
SmartShare is a program on your LG smart TV that streams media files directly from your computer to your TV using your home network. It allows you to watch the movies or listen to the music stored on your computer without having to transfer the files to a USB drive or burn them to a DVD.
SmartShare works best when the computer and television are connected to the network with an Ethernet cable. Using SmartShare over Wi-Fi may cause problems or poor playback quality

Step 2. Turn on your LG Smart TV
You will need to turn on your television to allow it as a trusted item on your computer.

Step 3. Connect the computer and LG Smart TV to the same home network
To stream media files from your computer to your LG Smart TV, you need to connect them both to the same home network.
Again, for best results, the television and computer should be connected to the router via Ethernet

Step 4. Open the Start menu

on your computer.
Click on the Windows logo at the bottom left of the screen.
Before you can use SmartShare, you will need to enable media streaming on your computer

Step 5. Tap Media streaming options
Windows will look for the “Media streaming options” menu on your computer. It is usually found in the control panel.

Step 6. Click Media Streaming Options
This option is at the top of the search results in the menu To start up. Click on it to open media streaming options.

Step 7. Select Enable Media Streaming
This option is in the middle of the window.

Step 8. Check the box next to the name of your LG TV
Scroll through the available options until you find your LG television, then check its box.
If the box is already checked, you will no longer need to click on it

Step 9. Click OK
This button is at the bottom of the window. Now your computer will be able to stream content to your LG TV as long as it is connected to the same network.

Step 10. Press the Home button

It sits in the middle (or lower right corner) of the remote.

Step 11. Select the SmartShare option
Scroll right or left until you find the SmartShare icon which looks like 4 colored spheres (respectively red, yellow, green and blue) then select the icon with the cursor and press OK.

Step 12. Click Devices
This is a tab on the left side of the screen.

Step 13. Select your computer
You should see your computer name on the devices page. Select it.

Step 14. Choose the media to play
Once your computer page is open, you will be able to browse the video, photo, and audio files it contains. Select one of the files to open it on your LG TV.
The computer you're streaming content from must be on and signed into your account for the files on it to display here
Method 2 of 3: Use Miracast

Step 1. Know how Miracast works
If you just want to view your computer's screen content on your LG TV, Miracast will allow you to do so without having to use cables.
As with the SmartShare option, Miracast works best when the TV and computer are connected to your router over Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi

Step 2. Turn on your LG smart TV
Press the power button

on the TV remote control to turn it on.

Step 3. Press the Home button on the remote control

The list of apps on your TV will open.

Step 4. Open Device Connector
This app allows you to connect your Windows computer to your LG smart TV.
- Select the option List of applications.
- Select the icon Device Connector.
- Press on OK on the remote control.

Step 5. Select PC
You can find this option on the Device Connector page.

Step 6. Choose Split Screen
This option is at the bottom of the screen.

Step 7. Select Miracast
This tab is on the left of the page.

Step 8. Choose START
This option is on the right of the page.

Step 9. Select PC with Windows 8.1 or 10
You will find this option on the right side of the screen. It allows your LG TV to be identified by your computer.
- It is also possible that you have an option PC with Windows 10 here. If so, select this option.

Step 10. Connect your computer to your television
Click on the "Notifications" square at the bottom right of your computer screen to open the Notification Center. Then do the following:
- click on Project
- select Connect to a wireless display
- click on the name of your LG smart TV
- enter the code that appears on your TV screen at the command prompt
- click on Connect

Step 11. Select your LG TV as the audio output
If the sound from your computer does not come out from the television:
- open menu To start up
- type sound
- click on the option His speaker-shaped
- select your LG television in the tab Reading
- click on By default
- choose To apply then OK

Step 12. Use your LG television as an extension of your computer
You should see your computer screen appear on LG TV. This means you can watch online content or watch movies from your library using your computer as a remote control.
Method 3 of 3: Use an HDMI cable

Step 1. Make sure your computer has an HDMI port
HDMI ports look like thin, wide slits with the base narrower than the top. Most modern computers have at least one free HDMI port.

Step 2. Purchase an adapter if necessary
If your computer does not have an HDMI port, you will need to purchase an output to HDMI adapter (output is your computer's video output).
Common non-HDMI outputs are DisplayPort, USB-C, and DVI or VGA (for older computers only)

Step 3. Purchase a cable that is long enough
Measure the space between your television and your computer (if you are not using a laptop) then buy an HDMI cable a few inches longer. This will prevent you from running out of cables if things need to be moved.
- There is very little difference between an HDMI cable at 5 euros and one at 70 euros. Since HDMI is a digital signal, it is either "on" or "off" and the cable does not affect signal quality. The difference in quality will only be apparent with longer cables.
- HDMI cables comply with standards up to 12 m in length. There are longer cables that technically still work, but are likely to fall short of standards.
- If you need to use HDMI over very long distances, you will need an amplifier to boost the signal.

Step 4. Insert one end of the HDMI cable to your television
The HDMI cable should be inserted into one of the HDMI inputs on the back (or sides) of the television.
If your LG TV has more than one HDMI port, you will see a number next to the ports. This number refers to the channel that you will need to select later

Step 5. Insert the other end of the HDMI cable into your computer
Plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on your computer.
If you are using an adapter for video output from your computer, plug the adapter into the computer and then the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the other side of the adapter

Step 6. Turn on your LG television
Press the power button

on the remote control of your LG television.

Step 7. Select the HDMI input
Use the “Input” button on the television to select the number of the HDMI port where the HDMI cable was plugged. You should see your computer screen appear on the television.

Step 8. Select your LG TV as the audio output
If sound is coming from your computer speakers and not the television, do the following:
- open menu To start up
- type sound
- click on the option His speaker-shaped
- select your LG television in the tab Reading
- click on By default
- select To apply then OK

Step 9. Use your LG television as an extension of your computer
You will need to be able to see your computer screen on your LG TV. This means that you will be able to watch online content or view movies in your library while using your computer as a remote control.
Advice
- HDMI cables rarely cost more than $ 10 or $ 15, especially if you buy them online.
- All LG smart TVs (and smart TVs in general) have HDMI ports.
