How to open MSG files (with images)

An MSG file is a Microsoft Outlook message file. It can be opened in Outlook, but also outside, with online file converters. Not only will you have access, thanks to the PDF format, to the content of the e-mail concerned, but also to the attachments.

Method 1 of 2: With Zamzar

Step 1. Know when to use Zamzar

This MSG file conversion website allows you to upload files up to 20MB including attachments.

Zamzar asks you to enter your email address in order to send you the transformed file. If you don't want to give out your address, then use the Encryptomatic site instead

Step 2. Go to Zamzar

On your Internet browser, go to the page:

www.zamzar.com/fr/convert/msg-to-pdf/.

Step 3. Click Add Files

This is, on the left, the first of three steps in the conversion process. When doing so, a window of your File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) will appear on the screen.

Step 4. Select the MSG file to convert

Find the folder on your hard drive where your MSG file is located, then click once.

Step 5. Click Open

The button is as usual at the bottom right of the window. Your MSG file is uploaded to a Zamzar server.

Step 6. Click the Convert to drop-down list

A large list displays all possible conversion formats.

Step 7. Click pdf

Look for this format in the Documents Formats section.

Step 8. Enter your email address

Enter a valid address in the text box of the 3^e stage.

Step 9. Click Convert

This gray button is in the cell of the 4^e and last step. Zamzar will start converting your MSG file to PDF file.

Step 10. Open the converted MSG file page

Once the file is converted, Zamzar sends you a confirmation email to the email address you entered earlier. In the latter, you will find the link to click to download the transformed file.

Open your email software inbox.
Open the email sent by Zamzar, with a title like Converted file from Zamzar.

If you don't see a new email within five minutes, take a look in your junk folder to make sure it isn't there
Click on the long link at the bottom of the email.

Step 11. Download the converted PDF file

Click the green button Download Now (Download now) to the right of the file name. This name is that of the subject line of the outgoing email (for example, Important Note) followed by the.pdf extension.

Step 12. Optionally download any attachments

If your email contains attachments, download them by clicking Download Now (Download now), this time the one to the right of an archive mention, with the extension.zip. The attachments will be transferred to your computer in a ZIP archive.

This done, all you have to do is extract the ZIP folder to read and the email and various attachments

Method 2 of 2: With Encryptomatic

Step 1. Know when to use Encryptomatic

If you just want to read what's in an email, without downloading it, then Encryptomatic is for you… as long as the file is under 8MB, including attachments. If the email in question contains attachments, you can also download them from the view page.

The major disadvantage of Encryptomatic is the limitation on file size. If you have a large MSG file, with attachments, you'd better use Zamzar

Step 2. Access Encryptomatic

On your Internet browser, go to the page:

www.encryptomatic.com/viewer/.

Step 3. Click Choose File

This button on a navy blue background is at the top left of the page. A window of your File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) appears on the screen.

Step 4. Select your MSG file

Find the folder on your hard drive where your MSG file is located, then click once.

Step 5. Click Open

The button is as usual at the bottom right of the window. Your MSG file is uploaded to an Encryptomatic server.

If, next to Choose file, you see the message "File is too large", you will have to fall back on the Encryptomatic site. Try with Zamzar.

Step 6. Click View

It's the dark blue button to the right of Choose file. In doing so, you arrive at the viewing page.

Step 7. Observe your email

Scroll to the bottom of the page. Under Encryptomatic, you have an email that almost looks like email in Outlook: everything is there, text, image and attachments, clickable links …

Step 8. Optionally download the attachments

If your email initially contained attachments, their names would appear in the section Attachments (Attachments) in the middle of the page. To repatriate them to your hard drive and consult them, all you have to do is click on their names.
