Have you lost the key to your anti-theft nuts? Do not worry, it is possible to remove its anti-theft nuts without this famous key, which will allow you to avoid an expensive visit to the garage.
Steps
Step 1. Check that the key to your lock nuts is not in your car
Here is a list of a few places where your key could be: the glove box, the center console, the trunk or even under the passenger or driver's seat. The key may also be located under the spare tire.
Step 2. Obtain a socket set and find one suitable for the size of your lock nut
Best results will be obtained with a 12 point socket. Also note that there are universal sockets specifically made for removing lock nuts.
Step 3. Take the socket size immediately smaller than in step 2 and place it on the nut
Step 4. Use a mallet to force the socket out of the nut
Step 5. Once the socket is fully seated on the nut, use a hinged handle to remove the anti-theft nut
Step 6. Repeat the previous steps as many times as needed
Advice
- Be careful not to hit the mallet with the rim or the tire.
- If your anti-theft nuts are original, make a call to the dealership where you bought your car to get a replacement key. Over the phone, also ask your dealer if they have a reference nut set so you can order the nuts you need. If your nuts are not original, you will need to find another way to remove them.
