You can prevent the display of advertisements on YouTube by purchasing a YouTube Premium subscription or installing a free extension on your browser. YouTube Premium removes ads on all platforms you're signed in to. The Adblock Plus extension makes it possible to block advertisements on any web browser. You can also use the Adblock Plus mobile app to prevent ads from appearing in your iPhone or Android browser. Finally, if you don't want your audience to see ads, you can turn them off on your own videos.
Steps
Method 1 of 8: On Google Chrome
Step 1. Open
Google Chrome.
Click or double-click the Chrome app icon that looks like a red, yellow, green, and blue sphere.
Step 2. Open the Adblock Plus extension page
This is the official Adblock Plus download page.
Step 3. Click Add to Chrome
It's the blue button at the top right of the page.
Step 4. Select Add extension at the command prompt
Adblock Plus will be added to your Google Chrome browser.
Step 5. Close the Adblock Plus tab
Opening this tab means the installation was successful.
Step 6. Watch YouTube videos without ads
Now that Adblock Plus has been installed, you will no longer see ads in YouTube videos.
Method 2 of 8: On Safari
Step 1. Open Safari
Click the Safari app icon that looks like a blue compass in your Mac's Dock.
Step 2. Go to the Adblock Plus download page
Open this page in Safari.
Step 3. Click Safari
This is the link under the Block ads on any desktop browser heading to the left of the page.
Step 4. Open the downloaded extension file
Click on the arrow Downloads at the top right of the Safari window, then select Adblock Plus to open it.
Step 5. Follow all on-screen instructions
As the extension file has been downloaded from the Internet, your Mac will ask you to confirm the installation of Adblock Plus before installing it on your machine.
- Chances are you should click To trust Where Install apps from a developer at the command prompt.
Step 6. Close the Adblock Plus tab when it opens
This tab opens to indicate that Adblock Plus has been installed successfully.
Step 7. Restart Safari
In order for AdBlock Plus to work, you must close your browser and then reopen it in order for the extension to effectively block ads from YouTube. To close Safari:
- click on Safari top right;
- select Exit Safari from the drop-down menu.
Step 8. Log in to YouTube
Thanks to Adblock Plus, you will no longer see ads on YouTube videos.
While ads will no longer appear on YouTube videos, they may still appear on platform pages
Method 3 of 8: On iPhone
Step 1. Open your iPhone's App Store
Tap the App Store icon in the shape of a white "A" on a light blue background.
Step 2. Select Search
This option is located at the bottom right of the App Store screen.
Step 3. Tap the search bar
The search bar is at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Search for Adblock Plus
Type adblock plus, then press To research on the keyboard.
Step 5. Choose Get
This option can be found to the right of the Adblock Plus app icon which looks like a stop sign with “ABP” written on it.
Step 6. Go to your iPhone settings
Tap the home button then tap the app icon Settings which looks like a gray box with cogwheels on it.
On an iPhone X, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to minimize the App Store
Step 7. Scroll down to the Safari option
You'll find it in the middle of the settings page.
Step 8. Tap Content Blockers
This option is at the bottom of the Safari page.
Step 9. Activate the Adblock Plus option
The white switch will turn green
Step 10. Enjoy your YouTube videos without ads
Open your iPhone's Safari browser then go to YouTube to access the mobile site. Thanks to the Adblock Plus extension, you will be able to watch YouTube videos without ads.
Method 4 of 8: On Android
Step 1. Open your Android's Play Store
Tap the Play Store icon that looks like a multicolored triangle on a white background.
Step 2. Tap the search bar
The search bar is at the top of the page.
Step 3. Search for Adblock Plus
Type adblock plus and then press the button To research Where Entrance.
Step 4. Select Adblock Browser for Android
You'll find it at the top of the search results page.
- The application Adblock Plus shown here is specially designed for the browser of Samsung phones, but Adblock Browser for Android is designed by the same company.
Step 5. Choose Install
It's the green button in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 6. Press Open
This button will appear at the end of the installation and you just need to press it to open Adblock Browser.
Step 7. Select One more last step
This option is at the bottom of the screen.
Step 8. Choose Finish
It's the blue button at the bottom of the screen. Tap on it to open the browser.
Step 9. Open YouTube in the browser
Tap the address bar at the top of the screen then go to this page to open the YouTube mobile site.
Step 10. Enjoy the videos without ads
Any videos you watch in the Adblock Browser for Android app will be displayed ad-free.
Method 5 of 8: On Firefox
Step 1. Open Firefox
Click or double-click the Firefox app icon that looks like an orange fox on a blue sphere.
Step 2. Go to the Adblock Plus extension page
This is the official Firefox page for Adblock Plus.
Step 3. Click ＋ Add to Firefox
This is the button on the right of the page.
Step 4. Select Add at Command Prompt
Adblock Plus will be added to your Firefox browser.
Step 5. Close the Adblock Plus tab
Once this tab is open, you can be sure that Adblock Plus has been installed.
Step 6. Watch your favorite videos on YouTube
Now you will no longer see ads when watching your videos on YouTube.
Method 6 of 8: On Microsoft Edge
Step 1. Open the Start menu
Click on the Windows logo at the bottom left of the screen.
You will need to install Adblock Plus from the Microsoft Store rather than downloading it anywhere on the Internet
Step 2. Open the
Microsoft Store.
Click on Microsoft Store in the menu To start up.
If you don't see Microsoft Store in the Start menu, type store in the search box to make it appear at the top of search results
Step 3. Click Search
This is the tab at the top right of the Store window.
Step 4. Search for Adblock Plus
Type adblock plus, then press Enter.
Step 5. Select Adblock Plus
This is the stop sign icon with "ADB" written on it.
Step 6. Choose Get
The blue Get button is on the left of the page and installs Adblock Plus.
If you've installed Adblock Plus with your current account before, you'll see the Install button instead
Step 7. Wait for Adblock Plus to install
You can continue when you see a notification saying “Adblock Plus has just been installed”.
Step 8. Open Microsoft Edge
Click or double-click the Edge app icon that looks like a dark blue “e” or a white “e” on a dark blue background.
Step 9. Click ⋯
This button is located at the top right of the browser window. Click on it to open a drop-down menu.
Step 10. Select Extensions
This option is in the drop-down menu and allows you to display a list of your extensions, including Adblock Plus.
Step 11. Click Activate at the command prompt
This will activate Adblock Plus in your browser.

If the command prompt does not appear, click on the gray switch

Step 12. Close the Adblock Plus tab
This tab opens to indicate that Adblock Plus has been added to Microsoft Edge.
Step 13. Test the YouTube videos
You should no longer see ads appear when watching videos from YouTube.
Method 7 of 8: Subscribe to YouTube Premium
Step 1. Open the YouTube Premium login page
Go to YouTube Premium in your computer's web browser.
A subscription to YouTube Premium will remove all ads from the videos you watch while signed in to your Google Account on all of your devices (e.g. your Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, Android, Xbox, etc.)
Step 2. Click Try Free
It's the blue button in the middle of the page.
- If you are signed in to your Google Account and have used a free month of YouTube Premium or YouTube Red in the past, this button will say “Get YouTube Premium”.
- If you are not logged in to your Google account, enter your email address and password then click again on Try for free before moving on to the next step.
Step 3. Enter your payment information
Enter your card number, expiration date and security code in the dedicated fields, then enter your billing address as indicated on your bank statements in the Billing address field.
- If you want to use a payment method that does not use cards, click Add a credit or debit card at the top of the window then select Add a new PayPal account and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you have already registered a card with Google, all you need to do is enter its security code.
Step 4. Click Buy
This button is at the bottom of the window and allows you to subscribe to YouTube Premium. You will be able to take advantage of a free trial month and then the service will be billed to you 11.99 euros per month in 2020.
- If you clicked on Get YouTube Premium instead of Try for free, you will be billed as soon as you click on To buy.
Method 8 of 8: Turn off ads on your videos
Step 1. Be aware that this is only possible on your videos
This method can be used only if you want to disable ads on videos you uploaded to prevent users from seeing them. For videos that aren't yours, use one of the other methods above.
By removing advertisements from your videos, you demonetize them and cannot obtain any compensation for them
Step 2. Go to YouTube
Open this page in your web browser. If you are already signed in to your Google account, this will open the YouTube home page.
- If you are not yet logged in, click Log in at the top right of the page then enter your email address followed by your password.
- This procedure should be performed on a computer.
Step 3. Click on your profile icon
It's the circular icon at the top right of the page. Click on it to open a drop-down menu.
Step 4. Select YouTube Studio (beta)
This option is in the drop-down menu and opens the YouTube Studio page.
Step 5. Go to the Videos tab
You'll find it on the left of the page with a list of the videos you've uploaded.
Step 6. Find the video you want to use
Scroll down to the video for which you want to turn off ads.
Step 7. Click on the Monetization menu
It sits next to the video name and it displays a drop-down menu.
If you don't see this option, it means your account isn't set up for monetization and your videos shouldn't display ads
Step 8. Choose Disabled
This option is in the drop-down menu.
Step 9. Select Save
This is the button at the bottom right of the menu. Click on it to disable ads for your video and agree to demonetize it.
